My receivers are not seeing COM5 / Arqiva A at 1000 on 20/7/18. Is it transmitting, or have I got a peculiar fault; other MUXs are OK.

I have lost such channels such as: Dave, E4+1, all of CBS and the horror channel. They just dropped out, others also have the same problems. I have reset several times, with no joy. Please, do you have any advice?
I live in Hythe Kent.

McFadden:

Firstly, please give your full p[ost code so we can look up the expected reception conditions for your location.

Secondly, check all your aerial cables and the plugs/sockets. Unplug all the coaxial plugs and then refit. That is to ensure there is no corrosion/oxidation on the contacts - which is a common cause of the problem you report.

Thirdly, put your post code into the Digital UK Coverage Checker and select Detailed View. Then scroll down and look at the suggested transmitter(s) you could be using and not lower down the channel numbers for the multiplexes. Then check that you equipment is tuned to those channels.

Masses of pixellating followed by intermittent black screen, retuned, now can only get 5 channels: 007, 048, 050, 061 and 207. And now 048 is doing the same. This happens every summer and is infuriating - can you tell me why? Surely nowadays something can be done.

Linora Bennet: Retuning is never a good idea if you suddenly loose signal as you've now deleted most of your channels which were previously correctly tuned. If it happens every summer then you are probably experiencing the effects of signal lift, where the hot weather causes signals to travel further than normal which causes signals from distant transmitters to interfere with the signals from the transmitter you are trying to receive. This is an entirely natural phenomenon which has been understood by scientists and broadcast engineers since UHF TV began in the 1960s.

John Lewis:

What makes you think the transmitter is reducing power John? What is happening exactly and is it affecting all channels or just some - which ones? My suspicion is it could be an interference problem if it's happening at exactly 1810 each day. If you provide a full postcode we can see what the Freeview detailed Coverage Checker predicts for reception at your location.
