Mike: It's originally down to having to accommodate S4C and making it available from every Welsh transmitter. S4C takes E4's space on the PSB2 multiplex, so E4 takes a slot on the COM4 multiplex in Wales only, leaving a slot which is available on COM4 in England/Scotland/Northern Ireland, which for the last few years has been occupied by Great Movies Action (formerly Sony Movies Action) with the broadcaster benefiting from lower costs as they are reaching a few million fewer viewers.

A reminder that COM7 has now closed (COM8 closed in 2020) so,
The UHF channels for Wenvoe are C41, C44, C47, C42, C45, C39, C37 that's in the multiplex order BBCA/PSB1, D3&4/PSB2, BBCB HD/PSB3, SDN/COM4, ArqA/COM5, ArqB/COM6, Local.
(C means UHF channel).

Whether or not you can receive the Local multiplex will depend on whether you are generally North of the transmitter and specifically your postcode to determine if you are likely to get adequate signal.
Also , see Channel listings for Industry Professionals | Freeview for which TV channel;s are carried by which multiplex.

My postcode is CF11 0SF . Flat no 728, sea facing. NO outdoor tv aerial.
I have recently had BT TV put into my flat, and I need an indoor aerial to be able to get the maximum amount of channels to watch and record through it. There are no TV aerials pre wired at my development, and not allowed to fit an outdoor aerial.
I bought an indoor aerial suitable for up to 9 miles from transmitter, with a built in booster, but it was useless, direct into TV, nothing but snow, the BT box also failed to pick up a signal.
Can you please recommend an indoor aerial that is suitable for my tv system and location.
( NB we are approx 4 miles from the Wenvoe Transmitter.)

Thank you

Carol Burson:

Most claims by these "indoor" aerial which claim suitable for so many miles etc. are complete rubbish. Some indoor aerials can be better than others. What make and model is the one you have?

The Wenvoe transmitter is 7km (4&1/3 miles) from you at compass bearing 281 degrees - that's 11 degrees N of due West and is the way the aerial needs to point, ideally through a clear window. If you have thick walls, large metal objects such as fridges/freezers in the way it will affect or stop any signal.
If you can't point it that way, try compass bearing 121 degrees, that's 14 degrees E of SE. Although the signal will be weaker you might get some from the Mendip transmitter.
If this aerial has any rods, they should be horizontal. But tell us the make and model, as well as what line of vieew you have, and we should be able to advise further.

I have had pixellation on certain channels for a week or so. Checking the affected channels, I think it is one
multiplex that is affected, COM6, ArqB.
Started early last week and today, Sunday 26th still happening.
Is there engineering work continuing or could there be a multiplex fault?
