I live in N Wales, 39 miles from Winter Hill with line of sight to the aerial. BayTVLiverpool is received perfectly with signal quality 10 and signal strength 10.

Robert Lee: Yes, but it has to be appreciated that your location is closer to the extended main lobe of the signal beamed out from Winter Hill, plus the signal path approaching your area does not run close to the ground, this being why DUK's reception predictor indicates your area as having excellent reception from all Muxes.

Andy on the other hand is well short of one of the side lobes of the signal, and which runs close to the ground from around 2 miles out from his location, this making the signal more prone to being affected by the surface of the terrain and what is growing on it, like for instance trees, the likely reason for most aerials seen in the area being mounted on top of high poles.

Hello . Recenly I got a new panasnoic tv I had a Sony tv before the Sony tv had 60% quality on hd channels and 90% quality on sd channels . But on the new panasnoic tv I can only get 20% quality on hd channels and 45% quality on sd channels. I swapped back to the Sony and there's nothing wrong with the aerail or cable . So whys the Panasonic tuner not pick up the same good signal .

Sony signal metering has always been optimistic, 60% quality a Sony is quite poor. You have an aerial problem that the Panasonic is correctly indicating.

Should read "on a Sony" but this site seems to have no edit facility to correct typing errors.

Jamie: In my experience, Sony tuners are very sensitive, but also pretty robust - its takes a very high signal level before they break up. Panasonics are also known to be sensitive, but less robust at high signal levels. So Anthony could well be right - the Sony is simply pulling in more signal over a poor connection.

However, whats the Panny you've bought? For the last year, Panasonic have a cheapish line with their name on it, which is actually made by Vestal, who make TV's for loads of other brands. So the Panasonic TV you have might not have an actaul Panasonic tuner in it. But I'd still check your aerial.

So you mean my signal may be to high .?

My panasonic tv is 5 years old but dad gave it to me as it's bigger the Sony was only a year old . But the Panasonic tv is plasma and 50 inches .

Jamie : No, Anthony is probably right - you've a low signal strength, but the Sony will do its best with the signal its got. Different batches of tuners, even from the same brand, might slightly differ. I'm really surprised that a 5 year old Plasma Panny should be much less sensitive than a year old Sony, though.

So you need to check that the cable is the same, and perhaps the signal strength on the aerial with another TV, just to make sure you nail down what the problem is.

Recent problems viewing my television, and a postcard from 800 outlining problems with bad reception,
has led me to your site being unable to get thru to 800.I have done checks and retunes without success
also does my internet come under this interference, because I get cut off from the internet for brief periods at night?

Brian Thornton: Put your postcode into this site - it will bring up a load of links, including DigitalUK, etc. Tv reception, 4G problems etc are all very reliant on location. You can then see if you do actually have a 4G problem, but I suspect 'bad reception' probably due to other factors.

And no, your broadband has nothing at all to do with your TV reception.
