David O'Keeffe:

This sounds very much like interference from some equipment that's on a timer, maybe central heating or hot water, but first it might be wise to check in our TV tuning section that you are correctly tuned to Emley Moor's UHF channels as there's several transmitters that could be picked up in parts of your postcode.
If you happened to be tuned to a weaker signal, interference will be more prone to causing problems, whereas it may not with a normal signal.
Also check all your coax plugs and connections and that they are clean with no corrosion.

Emley's Multiplexes & UHF channels are as follows, in the order -
PSBs1/BBCA, PSB2/D3&4, PSB3/BBCB HD, COM4/SDN, COM5/ArqA, COM6/ArqB, COM7 HD, & Local
C47, C44, C41, C33, C36, C48, C55, & C39/C42. Whether you get satisfactory reception of COM7 or the Local Leeds/York multiplexes will depend on location.

Another possibility, have you got any new equipment or changed anything about since this started, such as a digital recorder? Do those times coincide with 15 minutes before a scheduled recording starts?

We have a Panasonic TX-L32D25B TV that switches itself off and then on again a few seconds later.
It's about 11 years old and basically still works fine. We only use Freeview.
This problem has occurred several times over the last few years. Our local TV repair shop once told me that it was something to do with an off-air component (maybe from the BBC) affecting the software on certain Panasonic models.
This has happened again recently............
After watching various programs on TV and from DVD recorder for over 3 hours it switched itself off after watching MORE4+1 (Channel 86) for only 10 minutes then worked ok via the DVD recorder for a further hour or more.
Online comments suggest it is some kind of overheating problem in the TV but I'm not convinced about that. As I see it the original suggestion by my local TV shop about some off-air component affecting the TV software (but not the DVD recorder) does make some sense especially when tuned to a non-mainstream channel. Something similar to this has happened in the past with an obscure channel but I can't remember which one.
Having come across your web-site I would like to ask......
Are there any off-air signals that could cause this problem? Any ideas to help could be useful. Maybe we need a new TV but that could create as many problems as it solves.
I can expand on this but there doesn't seem to be room here.
Many Thanks

Graham White:

Emley Moor has just been listed for Planned Engineering with "Pixelation or flickering on some or all channels", this is likely to mean some reduced power. If you are in a low signal area that can result in no signal!
If you provide a full postcode we might be able to advise.
No faults are currently being reported.

Have you looked at your aerial? Is it still intact and pointing in the correct direction?

Steve:

The BBC are reporting a fault for Ventnor. If it's up-to-date DAB may be back on air but Freeview and FM still off-air.
