Paul Robinson:

Hi Paul. That's major degradation. I'm thinking that this can't be due to transmission & engineering otherwise there would be posts all over the place moaning, and there isn't.
I decided to have a look back through all your posts etc. You been having issues like this for about 3 years, even with Brierley Hill. This has to be something to do with your installation.
There's a couple of things I've mentioned/asked a while back, but got no direct response to some, so I think the best bet is to go through everything thoroughly, one thing at a time, so here are a few questions for starters.

You/ve got the Restore TV 700MHz filter, which I assume is still fitted, where is it fitted?

How old is your aerial (roughly)? Do you know what type it is? Where is the aerial mounted?
I did ask if you had any amp/splitter to feed more that one TV/Box/Device, you didn't comment on that.
Do you have a masthead amp?
Does the downlead from the aerial terminate in a wall-plate?
Or does it go to a coax plug and straight into the TV?

Good Afternoon,
Our TV has just carried out an automatic update and the majority of channels that we watch, with a good reception, have moved to 800 series channels, where the reception is very poor. The channels include GB News, Al Jazeera, Hobby Maker, Talking Picture TV. What is happening and will things improve?. We are pensioners spending a great deal of time at home and this has come as a major blow to us.
Thank you for your response.

Richard Holloway: There are ongoing engineering works at the Wrekin transmitter, according to Freeview. It is possible that this could be the reason for the issue arising.

In terms of what you can do then try a manual scan of UHF channel 47. This is the broadcast channel used by the Wrekin for the programme channels you have cited.

Richard Holloway:

Channels that have been put in the 800s are generally channels from another transmitter than your usual main one and this could be the reason those have poor signal.
So what channels are there that should be in the regular places such as 236, 235, 73, 82 for the channels you mention? Also note that all those channels are on the ArqB/COM6 multiplex.

The other possibility is that as there have been a number of "minor" channels changes today including some on the ArqB multiplex, and the way your set has done its "retune" may be the cause of the current channel list. You haven't said which main transmitter you recieve or given a full postcode so we could check that, but if the transmitter is having Planned Engineering (many are) and the signal for ArqB was weaker at the time, this may also be a contributory factor.

To be perfectly honest, "automatic" updates can frequently be more trouble that they are worth resulting in problems like this in the wrong combinatio9n of circumstances. If you can find it in your Tuning section settings, turn it Off and stick to user initiated automatic retunes or manual retunes which aren't often needed.
Your best bet at this point would be to unplug the aerial and do a full automatic retune which should clear all existing tuning as no channels should be found. Then plug the aerial back in and repeat the automatic retune which will hopefully restore all the channels correctly.

If that hasn't restored channels correctly, post back with your full postcode and mention which channels are missing or ;listed in the 800s etc.

It seems Steve and I were compiling replies at the same time. Whilst I note that you have posted on the Wrekin transmitter page, quite a few people do post in the wrong pages, so I don't take it as gospel that it is your main transmitter without a full postcode.
