Will the digital power output from the Sudbury transmitter be increased at any time before switchover?, i.e. will full (100kW) power tests be carried out on certain dates? If they are, it would be helpful to test reception strength. I currently get around 60 Freeview TV and radio channels here in CO14 8AW, but most are border-line signal strength.

I live in East Bergholt within sight of the A12. My freeview ITV and channel 4 pictures almost never work. I use a Panasonic platscreen with built-in tuner.
Will this situation improve in July when the switchj over ocurrs?

at CM34TW I have installed a Manhattan Plaza DT-100+ still using my very old arial as originally orientated mounted on the chimney of two storey house. I get an excellent picture though have not fully explored al available channels; there is occasional break up so I may need a better wideband arial sometime. What surprises me is that so much has been going on that has not been made more obvious to the general public - I've only just been prompted to investigate through google - clearly there are test periods going on since I can receive freeview only periodically.

Tony Jarvis: If test transmissions are carried out it is normally during the night and no decodable data is transmitted to avoid confusing receivers with an automatic channel updating facility. If your reception is intermittant it is likely that the current low power signals are hovering around the "digital cliff" and disappear at the slightest drop in signal strength or burst of interference. I would expect that you are missing Mux2 and MuxC due to the higher frequencies in use being out of group on your aerial. The best aerial to use for Sudbury is one for group E both before and after switchover. The alternative transmitter for your location is Crystal Palace. Group A receiving aerials should be used for that transmitter.

Gentlemen, can we have it all clear, inquiring as a general ignoramous in these matters; question: is Freeview digital - or however it might be described - up and running or not and in what guise. I can understand KMJ,Derby's point that the signal from Sudbury is not up to full strength and may therefore fall off a cliff, such as I've observed.As a matter of fact at 17.00 today I am still getting as far as I've explored, excellent reception. To put my question another way: what are the relative purposes of testing per se at night and that of reduced power running during the day that I perceive.
Thank you for the advice re. aerials, Have you an opinion re. log-periodic aerials, that I have seen discussed elsewhere.

THERE ARE NO OVERNIGHT TESTS ON THIS OR ANY OTHER TRANSMITTER
The problems you have experienced are down to Inversion. Again, the link is What is the Inversion Effect and why does it effect my Freeview TV reception?
