Your aerial is looking at Sutton Coldfield, but the HD transmission is from nr Lichfield,

It would seem that you have a hi-gain antenna, this would tend to limit the capture of signal,to a very narrow area, in degrees and miss the HD signal.

I am sure it will be fine, come digital switch over, when the HD multiplex moves to Sutton Coldfield on high power.

Take a look at the enclosed,it refers to ''analogue'' reception but gives the location of the Sutton and Lichfield transmitter sites.with reference to your location,

Thanks Andy, I will take a look. If I don't want to wait 6 months, do you think that a new aerial will make a difference?

Grumps: An additional aerial dedicated to Lichfield might be needed. Use a group A for best pick-up of C34. This can be linked to the Sutton Coldfield aerial with a group A+E diplexer. It is worth checking that there are no nearby VCRs or Sky boxes with the RF modulator set around C33 to C35.

Hi All, I'm in Wythall B47 6EW few miles West of Solihull. Just bought a HD fox t2 but can't locate any signal on ch34. I'm using a loft mounted wideband aerial and can get 100% quality with 35% to 65% strength. I also get a pretty good picture on analogue channel 5. I'm stumped as to what to check or change. Any help most appreciated.

wibble: Can you please check Single frequency interference | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice ? It might just the "loft aerial" problem.

Briantist, thanks for the quick reply. I read the single frequency interference page but I don't think it applies in this case. I don't have any other equipment apart from a DVD player and that's directly connected to the TV set. the DVD doesn't even have a fly lead connected for the receiver function. I switched off everything in the house that broadcasts RF still no difference. not sure if this is what you would expect but the strength and quality both show as 0...nothing....zilch...nadda! (you get the idea). If it's because I'm using a loft aerial isn't it a bit strange that I can get Channel 5 with a good picture? thanks.

Hi Wibble,
See the responses to me above as I am also from Solihull area. I have moved my loft mounted wideband aerial to Lichfield (3◦)and I have picked up all 4 HD channels. The signal strength is a bit down from Sutton C for the other digital channels but no noticeable problems. My HD Box doesn't show any signal strength for the HD channels and about 50% quality but they are definitely there and working, so I am not sure what is going on with the signal strength thing. Good luck

Yes Andy and thanks for your ideas and input. It got me there. Even had Dolby Digital on the Ch4 HD film tonight! I think I am still on the edge of reception because MOTD on HD has frozen a couple of times but nothing serious.
