Scott: Reception of all muxes will be more reliable after switchover. There will of course be occasions when distant transmitters are received due to the inversion effect but disruption to viewing should be much less than that experienced when high power analogue services swamped the low power digital signals. Sutton Coldfield will also no longer be sharing frequencies with Winter Hill or Emley Moor, two of the transmitters with which the service area overlaps.

Hi, I lost all the Freeview HD signal about 2 weeks ago and tried a factory reset and rescan and it didn't even find the channels at all as if they didn't exist. Standard Freeview channels also seem to be picking up more interference too although nithing has changed in my setup and the aeriel is fine. I live about 5 miles away from Sutton Coldfield mast... any ideas? (what really bugs me is i only recerntly purchasd the freeview HD box and its worked fine for about 2 weeks and then this).

G Roger Howe: The Derby relay which transmits from the FSHQ mast in Littleover village radiates towards Allestree, Chester Green and Chaddesden. Viewers with aerials set for Sutton Coldfield should find analogue BBC East Midlands on C48. This will become digital (still using C48) from DSO step2 at Waltham on 31st August 2011. Viewers in other parts of Derby would need to receive an East Midlands signal from Waltham, Kimberley (already digital only) or Little Eaton, which is analogue only until 17th August 2011.

Hi, I don't know if anybody can help explain but for well over a week now we have had serious interferece on all Mux 2 channels and have now lost Mux D completely. We live in flats in Nottingham but receive from Sutton Coldfield. Have reviewed all the help sections mentioned but none appear to explain the issue (though I cannot check the aerial). Numerous resets & restores of factory settings have not helped. Any clues?

Doreen: Can you provide a full postcode, please? Reception depends very heavily on your exact location and can change quite a lot with just small changes in distance.
Does your box still show an entry in the Guide for ITV3 on channel 10? If you enter '10' on the remote, does it show NO SIGNAL, or just not change channel? If the channel is entirely missing, try retuning - some boxes retune automatically, and if the multiplex carrying ITV3 was off-air or at reduced power when this happened, it may have deleted the channel.
There is some natural variation in signal levels due to how the signal travels through the air, and over terrain and around buildings, which sometimes can cause drop-out due to either too low or too high signal levels, or higher levels of interference from other transmitters using the same frequencies.
Changes in reception can also indicate the start of a problem with your aerial system or cabling. Check that analogue BBC One is clear, or at least as clear as you remember. If not, get the system checked, although note that there is currently engineering work going on at Sutton Coldfield which may cause periods of low power and interruptions. We don't unfortunately, know how long this will go on for, as Digital UK only publish notice of works a week at a time.

been having major problems with ITV channels and channel 4 and asociated channels E4 ect, over the weekend and up to now. getting very poor if any reception.
all TV's new with inbuilt free view.
all new cable.
booster boxes on every TV.
aerial new.
is there a problem with the transmitter, or work being done.

You should not need boosters on any TV. It is always better to amplify as close to the aerial as possible if it is required, but unless you're in a particularly difficult location it shouldn't be. You should try to maximize aerial gain before adding amplification.
If you are splitting the signal, and some amplification is required to ensure that each set has enough signal after the split, just add enough to offset the insertion loss of the splitter and the losses in the cables.
