I have just found this on the Technika page
Technika Freeview HD Set Top Box (May 2011)
Download latest firmware here STBHDIS2010_0161.zip
This firmware upgrade will resolve a number of outstanding issues when watching HD channels that may be experienced by a small number of users. Please note that this upgrade is only intended for boxes with a model number STBHDIS2010. Please check the model number on the base of your box and do not attempt to install this software on any other type of box.
To upgrade your firmware, please perform the following steps. You will need a USB memory device which is formatted as FAT32.
Download and save the STBHDIS2010_0161.zip file, see attached
Unzip the file this will create a folder called HYLAB_7105 containing a file A3M-ST2A-10-0161.usb
Copy to the folder to the top level of your USB memory device
Remove mains power from your STBHDIS2010
Insert your USB memory device
Restore power to the STBHDIS2010 whilst pressing and holding the MENU key on the front panel (or pressing the MENU button on the remote control repeatedly) until you see USB on the front panel display
After a few seconds, the front panel shows USB and the unit will now update the firmware automatically; this will take a few minutes to complete. DO NOT REMOVE THE USB OR SWITCH OFF POWER TO THE BOX UNTIL THE BOX UPDATE IS COMPLETE AND AUTOMATICALLY GOES IN TO STANDBY
When the update completes the STBHDIS2010 unit will re-boot and go in to standby. It will then be ready for use.
Switch on the box from standby using the front panel power button or using the remote control.
Retune the box as per the instructions on screen.
Download latest firmware here STBHDIS2010_0161.zip

David Parker,
Seems this is not a reliable product. Don't bin it, I would take it back to the supplier and ask for a refund or something which WILL work as this is clearly unsuitable. If they give you the link for a firmware update, ask THEM to do it, don't tell them you have or it may void your warranty.
Must add that this is my opinion and not to be attributed to this site or its owner.
Best of luck,
Ron.

I live on the wirral in merseyside my local region is bbc north west and itv granada , Which is winterhill bolton however i am less than one mile from the storeton teansmitter which dual broadcats north west regional tv and north wales as our very close proximity to wales so it serves both , how ever i ditched sky and got myself a cheap digi box all works well and good ,however my default bbc and itv is yorkshire lol i get calander news on 3 and bbc north on 1 , i do get my local channels in the 800s i am miffed why emley moor 80 miles away defaults as local when storeton which i can see physically at the top of my road does not default , i have asked other people where i live they said the same or default to wales , does anyone else have the same problem or head of this , i am on the border of the northwest and wales and couldnt be any futher away from yorkshire

Carl k: Storeton Granada uses low UHF channels (22 to 29) wheres Emley Moor uses higher ones (41 to 52). This means that you can run the automatic tuning with the aerial plugged in for Storeton and unplugged for the rest.
As a percentage, unplug at 25% and leave it unplugged until it gets to the end. This will also prevent you from picking up Storeton Wales which uses 53, 57 and 60.

David Parker,
You have followed their advice and nothing is changed, so if the unit proves to be faulty, you should be entitled to a replacement. If the unit does not come up as faulty, I would think that you should be allowed a refund or exchange for something which is fit for purpose. Even if you have to pay a little more for better spec. equipment, it is still a better option than the bin.
Regards, Ron.

Update on my freeview problems.
Thanks for all your advise guys.Had to buy a portable in the end to see if it was signal or Tv,and it works perfectly.Booked engineer to fix TV as looks like componant gone somewhere,so it is going in TV hospital for repair.Visiting times to follow lol.At least buying portable was cheaper than getting ariel man out as that would have been a waste of money in the end. Thanks again
