The symbol shows the location of the Crystal Palace (Greater London, England) transmitter which serves 4,490,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Crystal Palace (Greater London, England) mast?

KMJ Derby. Many thanks for your helpful comments. Ducting had not occurred to me. I think electrical interference unlikely as only one Mux was affected. All the rest were rock steady. My other thought was that the Tetra system might be causing the issue if a unit were nearby but I do not know what channels Tetra could affect either directly or by harmonic. Aerial is mast mounted with a masthead amplifier and distribution amplifier in the loft. To use Hannington, the aerial would look through a group of Scots pines!

I always seem able to receive the SD MUXs, but the HD MUX is flakey. As of yesterday (July 7th) it has disappeared (No Signal), whereas the SD MUXs retain about 50% Strength and 95% Quality.
When the HD MUX is working (as it was for the previous week) I get about 75% Strength and 95% Quality.

I am pointing at T Wells receiver from TN8 6PE and using a Technika HD STB. Aerial points directly at a large Oak tree. Could this be the problem, despite the SD MUXs being unaffected?

Wimbledon final this afternoon and currently no HD :(

Hi Mark, SW15 6DQ but now think it may be the communal DA on our block of flats....think, but cannot prove until 'normal working hours'. Seem to have pictures now, which the wife is happy about for the tennis!

Simon.London,SW15 6DQ.
Have you suddenly regained all the lost channels now at this moment in time while i am either texting to you,or by the time you read my text as such.
One likelyhood could be the inversion effect which i would strongly look up,or was there a thunderstorm at your location or nearby when you texted yesterday (Sat 7 July 2012),at 9.50pm which caused the temporary loss of signal from either Crystal Palace main transmitter,Reigate or Kensal Town relays which serves your communal aerial.
As for your communal aerial itself,is it a group A (red tipped) polarised horizontally facing Crystal Palace,or if vertically polarised is it facing Reigate (most likely a group W black tipped wideband) or again vertically polarised aimed at Kensal Town tipped green (group C/D) or tipped brown (group E semi-wideband) as such ?
If everything by now is okay then inversion (most likely) or thundery activity (less likely but possible?) are likely causes,if still problematic then as you stressed in your last text check upon normal opening hours, especially the aerial set up (horizontal/vertical polarisation and the coloured tips indicating grouped antennas),you may have to inform the landlord/landlady if the communal antenna is still at fault as such !

Hi,

Tonight at a similar time certain muxies are missing.. very odd.. weather doesnt usually screw with the picture for hours at a time here. We are in a block, big communal box which mafe me think a faulty DA, but missing just some channels tonight kind of screws with that theory. Prob a bit of both and the DA will be intetmittent that the engineer will not find faul with when he tests...! Cheers.

In SW15 6DQ we are losing channels outside of the engineering published times. Mostly after 22:00 we are only left with Film4 and those Mux channels... we currently don't have the bbc channels.

Before the digital switch we received BBC channels with no disruption. Since then we hardly receive a full signal and the Bit error level is extreme. No other channels are affected. Brand new television with internal FV and roof mounted aerial. BBC channels alone are almost permanently unreceivable despite all the rescanning, cable checking, aerial realignment etc. advice. Yet magically programmes will reappear for an hour, a day and then disappear. Tired of useless advice.
