Ian: Re; the direction that the aerials are seen to be facing, I dare say that they could well be facing Waltham as it has to be appreciate that its well nigh impossible for anyone to plot out an exact map of where an RF signal can be received and where not, that is unless an engineer travels around a particular area with a field strength meter, something that in the official sense is not really done nowadays hence these maps cannot really be used in the same way as would be a street map.
Another point being, that reception within these type of areas can be of the nature whereby a person can be receiving a good signal on one side of the street whereas another situated directly across the road from them struggles, and why even moving an aerial a few feet to the left or right of its present mounting position can in many (but not all) cases result in success, however occasionally this success is short lived due to the seasonal changes affecting the reflective properties of the terrain, something which always comes into the equation with reception in this type of situation albeit this in many cases being relatively unnoticed with DTT whereas with analogue a viewer might notice the picture having become slightly more grainy.

This is very true, I remember my mother telling me once that they had to have an outside aerial whilst the neighbour only needed an indoor.

Why weren't we told that WALTHAM channel 61 was being changed to Channel 49? I have just spent nearly three hours trying to retune today 29/05/2013.The problem being that if I use Automatic tune I get East Midlands from Waltham and Yorkshire/Lincolnshire from where ever, this causes broken pictures as they conflict each other. The only way I can over come this problem is to do a Manual retune for which I need the channel numbers. If you could make them available when ever a channel change is carried out it would be a great help.
Thank you (I live in Mountsorrel Leicestershire.)

Gordon R. Harrison: On screen messages were broadcast in the week leading up to the retune event.
If you actually look below the map on this page you get a list of each mux and their UHF channel number. Digital UK's detailed view also gives you that information.

Gordon R. Harrison: There have been warnings put out about this for many weeks.
http://www.digitaluk.co.u….pdf is the official publication
"On-screen notifications MHEGs
MHEG pop-ups (linked to use of the blue and yellow buttons) are to run on the BBC A and D3&4 muxes and be shown on BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Channel 4 and Channel 5 services as below:
D3&4 MHEGs will operate 7 days prior to the event and 2 days after. They will be seen by viewers of the OXFORD and WALTHAM primary transmitters and all of their respective relays. BBC A MHEGs will operate 3 days before the OXFORD and WALTHAM events.
NCNDs At -14 days, network change notifier descriptor (NCND) broadcasts will commence at the OXFORD and WALTHAM primary transmitters plus all of their respective relays. This will prepare compatible receivers to show on-screen messages on the 29 May 2013, or the first later date when the receiver is switched on from standby. The NCND signalling will run up to a month after the event."

This website is for technical assistance and has no connection with the broadcasters, so it has no way of altering what is broadcast nor how it is done nor how changes affect viewers.
Ofcom are the regulator responsible and they don't seem, in my experienced view, to have considered the effect on viewers.
No TV set has ever been automatically adjustable to any changes. The older analogue system was planned a long time ago and was not changed at all, except in a few places when Channel 5 was added for some viewers. Freeview (digital TV) is using a different way of broadcasting and the 'authorities' are making changes to allow for more smartphones to access the internet faster, but it is seriously affecting many TV viewers.
If you feel that these changes are affecting you adversely I recommend you contact Ofcom at Ofcom, Riverside House, 2a Southwark Bridge Road, London, SE1 9HA.
