Pete Green: They were encrypted and BT subscribers had access to them, along with those of Top Up TV. So BT was definitely involved, whether directly or indirectly. It stands to reason that, ultimately BT (and Top Up TV) were providing finance for these services to be carried.

The BT Sport services are on DTT in lieu of the Sky Sports. BT has clearly put a lot into its BT Sport project, having secured the rights to high-profile sport and having hired high-profile presenters.

As the old saying goes "money talks", I should imagine.

Search the internet for information. Sky Sports is still available to BT customers, but streamed via their broadband connections (rather than over the air like a "normal" television channel). Customers whose connections aren't fast enough aren't happy.

The 2 Sky Sports channels are to be replaced with the 2 BT Sport channels in August. Much of the coverage will be football, rugby, tennis, MotoGP etc but many fans of other sports are less interested. BT do not have a price yet for these services after the first year free.
Those hoping to get the service via their broadband connect will, I'm told by BT, need a service of at least 5.6 Mbps, so many rural users will be disappointed. (I'm not despite a 2.1 Mbps ADSL line - I don't like football!).

have had to re-turn tv [and will do my freeview box] in order to get the latest channel number changes ie ch20. Why was no notification given of the need to re-tune or did I missed it?

You missed it! Easily done, it was in the small print in adverts for it. The adverts only appeared on UKTV channels such as Yesterday, Really, et al

We have recently started suffering from a lot of macroblocking and even total loss of reception on the BBC SD mux only. This is from the Mendip transmitter? Have they reduced the signal level?
postcode is GL12 8NN
Aerial is on the roof

I live in Bristol, 48 and 49 from Mendip have always been poor, unusable signal levels, but have now completely disappeared, zero signal strength on both. I have to use a Skybox with expired card to get BBC regular channels on freesat.

I live in BS1 - central Bristol, and recently, with no obvious reasoning I have started getting very poor signals from Channel 4, 4+1, film4, 5, and now ITV and similar channels as well. BBC seems to be one of the only fine channels. What on earth is going on?

Oliver Grills: Are you sure that your receiver isn't tuned to the wrong transmitter?

From your location Bristol Ilchester Crescent and Mendip are roughly inline with one another, albeit that the former is vertically polarised and the latter horizontally so.

For ITV, Channel 4, Channel 4+1 etc Mendip is on C54 and Ilchester Crescent on C44. For Film4 Mendip is on C52 and Ilchester Crescent C39. The tuned channel number is usually given on the signal strength screen.
