update:- been into loft and rotated aeril to weaken signal now about 75% quality 100%, unfortunately signal quality still drops to zero giving no signal on screen.
Guess that means I am down to 4g probs or duff tv.????

brian: On your 08.58pm posting you said that your old Sony HD set was steady as a rock whereas the Panasonic's quality was diving up and down, this making me rather curious as to the model of Sony involved?
The other point being, that considering Rowridge is undergoing engineering work this week and which can result in either breaks in transmission or a range of other problems associated with transmission, then its not really possible for anyone to properly assess the situation whilst receiving under these conditions.
As far as 4G is concerned, considering the fact that the highest channel in use by Rowridge is C28 then should 4g be in your area(?) its extremely unlikely to have any effect on your reception unless its mast is located within 60 yards (max) from you..

Hi John..... the Sony is a KDL-40HX803 and the Panasonic is a TX-P50X60B
I spoke to the digital people who told me that Rowridge was under going work this week, but that they generally finish at 6pm, The fault continues up to at least 11pm at night. at the moment i cannot make the problem appear in the morning. which could be linked to the work or the TV takes that long to show up.....

Contact a local installer who should provide a free test and advise on the best way to move forward to rectify your issue.
Diagnosis shouldn't take very long.
With regards to your TV I have always found that SONY is rock solid with reception even when I have assessed installs of very poor reception.

Jamie

Cheers Jamie, trouble is how long it takes to happen, this morning switched on at 06:45 , no problem until 12:47 then it started, so 6 hours with no problem at all, hopefully JL will have more stock as they have agreed to swap it.......
Regards
Brian

BRIAN-
Even if you tv is not always showing the problem a system test can still find a fault.
See how the new tv works then look to call someone to test the system.

Just for info my channels like food network and Dave are intermittent at the moment normally quality is solid 100% strength 50% but some mornings and night the quality is up and down like fiddlers elbow 60 20 30 percent that's on a youview box then it goes steady agin i live in Selsey with digital airel and no booster. I am aware that they are working on it at the moment I have a installer check time airel and its fine with a fancy bit of kit not the 10 quid airel checker from screw fix.

Brian : Thanks for the info on the Sony model in question, this really being for notebook purposes as well as enabling me to check the service manual for same to find details of tuner fitted into this model as I do find what you have reported to be slightly puzzling as far as the Panasonic is concerned, as in my experience anyway Sony has never excelled to any great extent over any other well known brand and especially Panasonic, albeit that the latters signal strength / quality indicators do have rather lively extremely fast responses to changes in the signal levels over that seen on many other sets, some of being rather sluggish meaning that a signal could dive up a down and yet it would appear to be stable, mabye the latter is not such a bad thing though!
By the way, I would take what you have been told by the digital hepline people "if" thats whom you were talking to? with a proverbial pinch of salt, as although what you have been told can in many instances apply in other cases it doesnt dependant on what is involved, therefore the only thing I would suggest you do is try and verify if anyone else in your locality are also experiencing problems with reception at around the same time as yourself, of course making sure that they are viewing the same programme channels as well as ensuring that they are viewing whatever from the same station, as checking back on your postings I cant say I noticed you having mentioned where you are located, this info being important when evaluating causes of reception problems.

Waterlooville
Thanks for the feedback Guys, We are situated at PO7 6BE, waterlooville area. We have never had an issue with the Sony tv on HD channels since HD started in the meridian area. However i'm beginning to think that it was related to the transmitter work as since 15:30 yesterday not had a problem.im guessing the work has finished or they have gone for the weekend. If it was the transmitter work puzzled as to why the Panasonic did not like it but the Sony was fine, albeit that john said Panasonic tuner's are quite sensitive. As far as checking with neighbours nobody we know near us has a HD TV. Will monitor it over the weekend and see what happens. digital helpline told me the work in progress on transmitters updates on a Monday, hopefully rowridge will be work free enabling me to make a better judgement as to whether it was likely to have been the transmitter work causing the problem.....

Paul: It should be mounted vertically, particularly as you've had someone out to it.
