carolyn george:

If your aerial contractor thinks the problem is due to 4G services, you should contact at800 using the Contact us | Advice or general enquiries | at800 web address. That page has a number of options to help checl the cause and allow you to contac t them directly.

If the cause is suspected to be 4G services they will supply free of charge a filter to add into your aerial system. I'm surprised your aerial contractor did not mention this as it's very well known and documented.

I'm assuming that your live within the Ilchester Crescent transmitter service area, a post code would help us to check that.

ty Mike for your reply My postcode is bs13 0jy.
When I called the aerial man he put a new aerial up and found it was no better so put mine back up , He also put a filter to the aerial as you spoke about and it made no difference, the equipment he had checked my aerial which he said was fine,he checked my tv which again was found to be ok (as it only approx. 2 yrs old he thought it wouldn't be that} .he then checked my set top box which I use to record and he found that to be working ok.he retuned the tv and finally I had quite a good picture on every channel so he thought it may just be signal and it was sorted .Since then it has continued to cause problems so I called a tv repair man more cost and he said same tv ok set box ok aerial ok so more cost and still my tv is having problems the last 3 days I can only watch bbc as all other channels are either saying no signal or picture breaking up .I just don't know what else to do or try please can you help me I am on small income and practically housebound so the tv is one of my last pleasure in life

carolyn george: Check your signal strength! I sometimes get the same problem, and its the signal suddenly going down to about 30% or way up to 80 or 90% - both end up looking the same. Strangely, I'm getting both problems a bit at the moment.

Since you've had everything checked, I doubt the signal is too low. Now the transmitter your on is very low power, but on the other hand, your very very close 2km. So it could be your jusdt getting too much signal, and that causing the problems.

carolyn george : On having read over what you have said, and in particular the fact that your aerial installation as well as the equipment connected into same has been checked over by two separate engineers, I was just wondering if the fault referred to was actually in evidence at the time of any of their visits?

However, as to the cause of said problem, although an overly strong signal can indeed result in signal break up etc, the fact of you having stated that you can only view the BBC is inclined to suggest that this isn't the reason for your difficulty, as the BBC and ITV (excl ITV3) are transmitted on twice the power of all the other channels, i.e: the ones that you have reported as being unable to view, the reverse of what would be expected.

Another thing I wondered about being, as you would appear as being able to view Freeview via either the tuner in your TV, or alternatively via same in your "Freeview" set top box recorder, does the signal on the other channels referred to break up no matter what you are viewing them through?

To clarify the aforementioned, Freeview through the TV means using the TV's remote to change channels, whereas via the set to box, means by selecting the set top box via the "input select" button on the "TV's" remote control, but using the set top boxes remote control to change channels.

My personal suspicion is that your problem is possibly being cause by some intermittent form of localised interference, "local" meaning such as even through the adjoining wall between two properties.

carolyn george: I did also mean to add. That if the lead from your aerial passes through your set top box recorder and then into your TV?, check if anything changes by "not" placing the set top box in standby, as some set top boxes of the recording variety have an "eco" power saving mode in standby which kills the aerial loop through (in / out) facility, although in strong signal areas such as your own might only partially reduce the level of the signal being passed through to the TV, reception of sorts still being possible albeit with continual picture / audio glitches.

jb38 Tyvm for your reply yes all the people I have had her have seen the problem I am having .I have just spoke to freeview and they can only suggest what I have already done ,I then spoke to 4g who are going to send filter but as that as already been done I doubt that will solve problem. As for my neighbours no one else has problems as they all have dishes outside there house or are on vigin or sky .I want to give up but then again I need to be able to watch my tv so I guess I am having to call yet another tv man and hope that someone with good knowledge turns up .but ty for your reply x :
