The symbol shows the location of the Ridge Hill (County of Herefordshire, England) transmitter which serves 270,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Ridge Hill (County of Herefordshire, England) mast?

We have had no Freeview since 7pm on friday 22nd. We had talk talk tv until 8am yesterday, but no freeview signal. We have retuned/ reinstalled the tv's to no avail. We are one of several households in our cul-de-sac that are without tv. Please rectify the problem ASAP as we are licence payers and suscribe to other tv providers! Please also let us know in future of any connection problems/ engineering works as a matter of common decency to householders.

Rachael RENO: Assistance / advice on issues concerning reception problems can only be given in cases where a persons location is known, therefore a post code or one from a nearby shop / Post office is required, this info used to enable access to details of the transmitter covering your area as well as the operational status of same.

Another point being, as you have reported that other residents in the cul-de-sac are also affected by the problem the question would be, whether (or not) the households referred to are all connected into a communal aerial system? because if they are?, then the aerials distribution amplifier has possibly failed.

However, irrespective of the aforementioned, further advice can be given once your location is known.

Bromsgrove

I live in Bromsgrove, B60 3DE. I can't use the local transmitter as the Lickey incline is at the bottom of the garden, high up directly between me and the transmitter. A combination of trains going past and trees on the embankment makes the picture unwatchable. 2 years ago, the aerial fitter did a good job in setting the aerial to Ridge Hill, which has been fine.
At present Ridge Hill has a weak signal. DigitalUk shows there is planned engineering work there, but doesn't say what or when it will be complete. When I retuned last week the Humax Youview box seems to have tuned the main channels to Bromsgrove (V polarisation), despite the aerial being Horizontal pointing at ~90 degrees away from B'grove. The channel numbers I want are close together on the two txs: Ridge Hill 21 to 34, Bromsgrove 23, 26, 30, then some 40s. On my Sony TV I can selectively tune each channel. I can't find a way to do that on the Humax box - it is all or nothing. I'm probably going to have to wait until it is back to full power.
Does anyone know when Ridge Hill will be back to full power, and is there any way to select the channels on the Humax box?
Thanks, Paul

Paul Evans: Hi Paul. Let me check Ridge Hill engineering for you first. There appears, unfortunately, to be no publicly available information to indicate when the works at Ridge Hill will have been completed and when it will return to full power. I will now quickly investigate the Humax Youview box to see if you can do a manual tune on it. Apparently it is NOT possible to carry out a manual retune on a Humax DTR-T2000 Youview box because Humax doesn't provide manual retune as a menu option. Is this what you are finding, Paul? As I think you have realised, Paul, there is no simple solution to your dilemma other than to wait for Ridge Hill to return to full power. I certainly wouldn't use , or even try to use Bromsgrove, with a measly 400 watts per multiplex, when Ridge Hill has all 8 multiplexes, with the main ones on at least 10,000 watts and multiplex COM8 on 4,200 watts. Richard, Norwich, 4:30 p.m. on Weds. 8th. June.

Thank you Richard. You are right about the Humax box - I'd like to choose the channels to tune but there is no facility for that as far as I can tell and as you confirm.
I agree Ridge Hill is a far better option, even though Bromsgrove is almost in sight - if it wasn't for the Lickey bank in between!
I'll sit on my hands for a while.
Thanks again,
Paul
ps Many of my neighbours have aerials pointing to Worms Ash (Bromsgrove), vertical elements. No idea what their reception is like. The people in the house before us gave up on terrestrial and used a dish. The neighbours may be doing the same.
