Problems from Rowridge in the Eastleigh area (SO50) with 106 (BBC Four HD) and 205 since the change in frequency and rescan on 18 January. Stations missing or breaking up, no information from BBC, Freeview blaming domestic equipment as usual despite good signal on all other channels, no response from Arquiva so far. Annoying attitude to fee-paying customers.

R Murchie: Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV? What signal strength and quality readings do you get on BBC 4 HD? Please provide a full postcode (the first half isn't enough) so that we can see where you are in relation to the transmitter and your predicted coverage etc.

StevensOnln1: Checked connections, aerial direction, rescanned TV and PVR but no COM7 found so no signal on BBC4 HD. Previously before the recent frequency change it was 100% signal quality, 50% signal strength (due to low broadcast power), other stations 70%. Postal code SO50 4SA, in the middle of good signal all zone for Rowridge.

R Murchie: The new version of BBC Four HD is on COM8 (the one on COM7 is the old version which will soon be removed). COM8 is shown to be lower signal strength at your postcode than COM7. Can you receive the BT Sport Showcase HD channel on 115? What signal strength and quality does it show?

115 not received. I will write to Ofcom about this incessant meddling with frequencies - what is the point in the BBC making dramas and wildlife films with high production values and then broadcasting them at a miserable 18kW?

R Murchie: The BBC don't decide the transmitter power and Ofcom don't have any say over which channels are broadcast on which commercial multiplex. COM7 & COM8 are temporary services which have been made available from 30 transmitters using 6 spare frequencies which were kept clear after digital switchover completed in 2012 and were brought in to use by reusing old pre-DSO transmitter equipment in order to provide additional capacity for HD channels on Freeview (if COM7/8 didn't exist BBC Four HD would probably never have been available on Freeview at all). It was always stated that coverage of these services would be limited to around 75% of UK households for reasons of cost and availability of clear frequencies. Broadcast power also has to be limited on some transmitters such as Rowridge (and various other transmitters near the coast) in order to avoid causing interference to existing services in northern France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Republic of Ireland. According to Digital UK, reception of COM8 from Rowridge will improve at your postcode when it moves to UHF channel 56 on 21st March, with further improvement early next year when frequency changes are due to take place at other transmitters.

I live in a bit of a hollow (PO7 8QG, Waterlooville) and so I have a TV aerial on a tall mast with an amplifier. With this set up I am able to receive all the main HD TV channels. I watch BBC4 HD a significant proportion of my viewing time. I was able to receive BBC4 HD when it was on Com7 (and the other HD channels on Com7) but near the signal/error rate limit. Following the move to the Com8 multiplex on channel 37 neither of my TVs have been able to tune to the channels of Com8, so I have now lost BBC4 HD altogether which is very annoying. I assume the combination of the lower power of Com8 and the roll off of my Band A aerial means the signal is now below the threshold. From R Murchie's posts this is not limited to me.

J Whitney: Digital UK's prediction for your postcode shows a weak signal on COM7 and nothing on COM8 for Rowridge. Unfortunately it looks like you could loose COM7 too when it moves to UHF channel 55 in spring/early summer.
