I'm having some work done on my old aerial array which consists of a 5 element FM aerial with rotator and mast, and a TV aerial. All of this is at least 25 years old. The FM equipmant being redundant I'm having it removed. Although I have no problems with TV reception which is very good I'll probably update it. So that I know that the rigger is using the correct type can you advice please what channel group I should insist on? My postcode is GU4 8NH and I use the Guildford transmitter. I'll probably also have a DAB aerial attached to the mast too.
Thanks for any advice.

Mike O'Sullivan: At only 5km from the transmitter you would be better off with a wideband type such as a log periodic rather than a grouped aerial, given that the Guildford transmitter currently uses channels between 40 and 52 whereas from next year it will use channels between 31 and 47.

If I might ask another question - if a DAB aerial is mounted on the same pole as a TV aerial, how far apart should they be to mitigate interferance?

Guildford Freeview: ITV3 etc. moved from CH48 to CH37 recently. ukfree.tv still shows incorrect CH48.

Poor reception following 18th April re-tune.

Since the changes on 18th April have been plagued by poor reception. Our aerial points at Guildford. and according to these pages we should get the following muxes:

PSB1 C43 650MHz
PSB2 C46 674MHz
PSB3 C40 626MHz
etc

However, looking at he signal info on our TV it has tuned itself to:
PSB1 C41 634MHz
PSB2 C26 514MHz
PSB3 C47 682MHz
etc

However, if I try to manually tune to the first set of channels, zero channels are found.

So either the trasnmitter information for Guildford is incorrect, or my TV is picking up another transmitter, or both. Any input would be appreciated.

David Morton: According to Digital UK, the Guildford transmitter now uses UHF channels 41/44/47/37/31/32 so it looks like you are picking up PSB2 from another transmitter (C26 is used for PSB2 by both Crystal Palace and Reigate). What do you get if you try manual tuning on those frequencies?

Having exactly the same experience as David Morton (29th Apr) and have done since the end of April. We used to pick up BBC A ok, but now just when manually tuning comes up 'zero channels found' !! Very frustrating - able to get BBCHD services but they are sometime sporadic! What's changed - surely not just taking out the 700Hz signal ?????

Kevin Youung:

Over recent weeks a number of transmitters have had work done to change the frequencies used for the various multiplexes and that usually means viewers need to do a retune. But it's often best to do it using the manual tune facility of most sets, see your User Manual for how to do that. You also need to know the exact channels being used now, so go to the Digital UK Coverage Checker at Digital UK - Coverage checker put in your posty code and then check the channels listed for the Guildford transmitter. Use that data to perform the manual tune if your settinhgs are different from those listed there.
