ITV(1) channel 3 or ITV3?
If you mean ITV1 then can you get ITV1 HD and ITV1 +1 hour?

ITV3 has at last become a national channel and is now broadcasted from all Transmitters and relays. (About a week ago)
ITV3 EPG/channel number is channel 788 (The last channel in the list, under the radio channels)
I should imagine that the EPG number will move somewhere between ITV2 and ITV4 in the future.

We currently are not receiving any ITV, Channel 4 and many Freeview channels. This started yesterday and has continued today. We have had several such episodes lasting several hours over the last few months with no explanation. We can receive BBC channels and some Freeview channels.

Re-tuning the set simply finds the available programmes, i.e. BBC.

We don't believe this is an equipment or roof mounted aerial problem as our neighbours have the same problem. We can't find any notification of problems on line. Any advice appreciated.

Hi there, my mother in the same postcode has exactly the same issue. TV is fine, aerial is fine. Does appear to be a signal issue. Do you know if there is a way to contact the responsible parties directly? Any advice gratefully received.

B Drew: check that your tv is tuned to the right transmitter, and that your aerial is working properly. And then remember that we are having high pressure, so it could be that. But most such problems seem to have been caused by the first two issues.

One of our neighbours who also has the signal problem had their aerial changed today in an attempt to overcome the problem The fitter eventually managed to obtain an HD signal by fitting a new aerial (not sure which transmitter), but said the problem is weather (pressure) related and there's not much that can be done! Apparently it's cross-channel interference or something similar?

It would be good to hear from a representative of the Heathfield transmitter to get their opinion.

Roger Milbery:

Tropospheric lift is a well known phenomenon during hot weather with a high pressure system nearby. It has been known about since at least the mid fifties but is more noticable on UHF transmissions rather than VHF (BBC1 405 line was Band 1 VHF and ITV 405 line was Band 3 VHF). Previous 625 line transmissions were all on UHF, as are all the Freeview signals nowadays. It is not unusual to find signals that normally only travel 50km are able to be received, and viewed, 150km or more away! Whether the source of your current signal problems is from the mainland Europe is hard to tell - it could be from any direction that is 'visible' to your aerial. In the current weather conditions do not retune.

ted.chuck: Given that no one else is reporting any problems, the most likely explanation is that you have a problem with your aerial system. Start by checking for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV and do not attempt to retune.
