michael scott : Has anybody else experienced multiplex changes and power reduction from Beacon Hill on Saturday 31-october-2015 ? COM8 from C34 to C37 ? Signal strengths down for some multiplexes from both Beacon Hill and Stockland Hill. Is this a juggling whilst new,or changed, channels appear ? I have a 'very good terrestrial aerial' line of sight from Stockland Hill and close enough and high enough for Beacon Hill too ! Perhaps it's all down to imagination.......I am 72 now.......G1ZVO.

I understand that Transmitter engineering:is very necessary, but cannot understand why ALL BBC channels are pixelated and breaking up - signal strength being 38%.when the weather is clear, wind strength force 2 or 3 and No leaves on trees.BBC 1 strength 38% BBC 2 strength 37% compare this to ITV & Sky on channels 3 and 132 at 60%.WIth the following exceptions the remaining channels are at 56%to 58% . Channels 12.19.20.25,31,34.38,42,45,47,50,57,59,63,64,70,71,81 are all in the 45%to 50% range resulting in pixelation. The HD channels are un-watchable! If you can transmit channels 3 and 132 at a strength to give 60% reception why not ALL channels especially the licensed paid for BBC channels 1 to 4 and News' TV engineers for residential call out are expensive when we find out the signal is weaker for selected channels. I want to be able to watch all channels this month and over Christmas. My post code TQ2 6UH confirm You will renew BBC broadcast strength asap. Thank you G E Govier

George Govier: Firstly, the BBC has nothing at all to do with transmission (if Brianist had a pound for every person who used the phrase 'licence fee' when they had a problem, he'd do very well), and I'm certain that demanding 'You will renew BBC broadcast strength asap' will have no effect what so ever. Its possible that there might be interuptions in service, but you can see at the top of the page that both the BBC and ITV mux's broadcast at exactly the same power.

You are 4km from the transmitter. Let me repeat this - you are just 4 km from the transmitter. You seemingly have a clear line of sight to it, and as you say, there are no leaves on the trees. Its possible you dont even need an aerial at all at that distance, so to get a poor signal strength almost certainly means a problem with your aerial system. Yes, someone will mention 4G, but I can't check where the base stations are.

A damaged aerial lead can make certain muxes vanish, while others (even weaker) will remain. The fact that your getting a max of 60% signal strength 4km from the transmitter on the ITV mux possibly points to a general problem, but one which is particularly showing up on the BBC muxes.

Check your aerial lead (perhaps replace it, they are very cheap), and then follow the path up to the aerial. Could be a corroded connection, water, etc.

Terry Bannon :

Looking at the terrain plot information, on the blue box below your submission, there is a large hill between you and Beacon Hill transmitter. I suspect this has a lot of trees near the summit, the by-pass being mainly below that area so unlikely to affect your reception. It is more likely that the trees can be causing the variation, especially with the recent/current high winds.

MikeP:Thanks for your thoughts. working fine today (tonight) not working all day though .. We have been here since transmition started. It is interesting that all other channels were working at strength. I also suspect weather or some other activity in the line. Why just com 7?
Tonight ch33 was at 100%.
