Thomas: Yes, you were lucky, there was an Inversion effect which caused the signal to go beyond their usual coverage.

The radiation patterns were computed and agreed many years ago.

Alan Clarke: Just to somewhat back up what has been mentioned by all, first thing this morning I tried a test on Ch28 using a small amplified log aerial that I carry around with my gear, receiving ITV1 HD from Belmont with a perfectly stable picture.

The other HD channels were too low to resolve a picture, but at 50 odd miles away on an temporarily positioned aerial at about 18 feet from the ground, this is not entirely an unexpected result.

Brian,

No not like the logo in the link you have said. Basically I have seen in my local Tesco's a few months ago a TV that are being sold.

They have the red Freeview logo and next to it HD in big silver letters which makes it look like the Freeview HD like this:-

Freeview
/ Home
/ HD

Underneath it level with the HD lettering says Ready, as in the HD Ready logo.

If I had a picture of the brand make and model I could show you. But this tv when you look closer at the spec can see that it doesn't have Freeview HD built in.

Martin: Do you have the make and model details? If it is as you say you could make a reasonable case under the Trades Descriptions Act.

I am one of the very large number of viewers in south Sheffield that receives an excellent signal from Belmont. Like other correspondents I have an 'HD Ready TV' (Sony)and this has provided excellent TV pictures for 5 years. I am reluctant to replace it. However, I need a new DVD recorder anyway, so plan to replace my trusty Panasonic with a new one that has 2 digital tuners. Will this receive the HD signal for passing to my TV. Unfortunately, the TV does not have an HDMI input (That's really HD Ready, not!!). Could I pass the signal to the component inputs and get a decent pseudo HD? I have also read of interfaces eg HDFury that help with this. Anybody tried one of these?

Ian Cooper: If you have an older HD Ready TV set, the it will have a DVI input, which is also digital. You can get a simple connector (such as
DVID to HDMI Gender Changer : Digital Monitor Cables : Maplin
), but it has no audio so you will need to connect this with another cable.

I can't really say if your proposed Panasonic device has a DVB-T2 tuner or not as you didn't provide a model number.

Hi all, at HU3 1LA since retune on the 17th I have all BBC channels but pixelating on ch4, 5 and ITV2. Hoped it would have improved. This whole retune is proving a nightmare with lots of shows/ films not recording on wmc7. Any suggestions?
Cheers
Lawrence
