Bridlington in East Yorkshire is having lots of problems, over the last 3 days.
No signal for long periods of time.
Can rectify the problem please.

Angela Thompson: the William Hepburn's tropospheric ducting forecast for Europe shows that it is highly likely that reception in Eastern parts of England is currently being influenced by signals from The Netherlands and/or Germany. I noticed yesterday morning on FM radio that there was a radio station playing German music on an adjacent frequency to BBC Radio Derby received here in South Yorkshire. Reception should return to normal when there is a change in weather conditions.

Will snell: Since Belmont has no reported problems, its probably your system. Check cables, etc - probably a connection has failed, etc.

Hello I recently had freesat installed I'm wondering if I have a good signal or not and I have had problems with my box freezing and stuff . My signal level at the lowest is 80% signal and 100% quality. But on some channels it's 91% signal and 100% quality where's the rest are 80 % signal I have had a little break up but it's rare and only happens for a few seconds on freeview i got break up all the time . I'm also wondering if there's any plan to put home channel and Dave and quest on freesat in the near future? .

I'm worried because I thought signal strength should always be 100% as well as quality.

Dave:

For Freeview, your signal strength should never be 100%! It is better if it is between 60% and 80% but with quality as high as possible. On Freeview, a strength of 100% is almost certain to give picture and sound problems as it is too strong.

Freesat does not come from the Belmont transmitter but from a group of satellites in geo-stationery orbit above the Equator, roughly over East Africa. A dish is required for such reception, so I assume from your post that you have a dish and suitable Freesat receiver. Again, 100% signal strength is not ideal and is very rare, but the quality should be as high as possible (noting that a stronger signal may actually reduce the quality!).

dave : If everything you have said preceding - "on freeview i got break up all the time" - is referring to Freesat signal levels? then variation in levels between channels is quite normal, as jumping about satellite channels not only involves receiving signals broadcast on different polarities but also from different transponders, i.e: the satellite equivalent of transmitter.

As far as your box freezing etc, if the previously mentioned "is" applicable i.e: Freesat, although the signal levels given are perfectly OK, try observing one of the channels for at least a minute or so watching for any signs of intermittent dips in quality, as this can result in intermittent freezing of the picture / audio squeaks etc, if evident? then the problem could be caused by a less than perfect fitting of the "F" connector at each end of the coax.

Another possible reason, being that the satellite dish has been positioned where it doesn't have a completely clear view of the S/SE skyline and is being intermittently obstructed by tree foliage etc. (usually shows up more on windy days)

That said, some Freesat boxes (Bush / Goodmans etc) have a reputation for glitching for no apparent reason, maybe you could mention the brand you happen to be using?

Intermittent complete signal loss. A quick check at Facebook and it would appear that everyone else in Beverley, East Yorkshire, is experiencing the same problems. So why on earth does this site still state that there are 'no problems reported?
