kevin rose: I have just had a look at yesterday's chart from the William Hepburn's Tropospheric Ducting forecast and it shows that the Inversion effect could be responsible for your loss of signal.

kevin rose: Perhaps have Crystal Palace tuned in (probably in the 800s) as a back-up.
It is only 11 degrees off the bearing for Bluebell Hill.

Hello
In the last few weeks we have lost ITV4 Film4 yesterday and some others and it makes no difference how many times we re-tune they do not appear. Can you advise as to why this has happened.

Hi Tony,
I had the same problem when tuning my mothers box - It did not pickup C54 (ITV4,Yesterday etc)from Bluebell hill. She lives in Whitstable which lines up with Bluebell Hill and also Crystal Palace. I simply tuned in channel 28 (ITV4, Yesterday etc) from Crystal Palace and its working fine. I still have no idea why C54 seems impossible to get.

I am just 3 miles from Bluebell hill (Vinters park Maidstone) yet reception is poor especially at the moment. Why is this? Is it the weather or what?

Suddenly this evening things are a lot better.I have a SIGNAL STRENGTH OF 6 AND QUALITY of 8 now.It is always channel 54 that suffers the most when things go awry.

David: If as was likely, that you were receiving signals from the transmitter that strength wise were bordering on the verges of being "over the top", then if your reception has suddenly improved it simply means that the signal strength has dropped slightly thereby taking the edge off the tuner from operating in a semi-overload situation.
By the way don't trust any signal strength / quality indications seen when in this type of situation, as the receivers signal measuring circuitry gets corrupted due to an element of instability occurring in the tuner and with this resulting in inaccurate indications, these nearly always being much lower than in reality.

Having lost signal on film4, yesterday, and a few others, I did a factory reset and auto rescan on all my tv's and my Humax fox t2 and this cured the problem. I noticed that the channel carrying these signals had changed to 54.
However my Humax DTR 1000 T YouView box won't allow me to do this without wiping the hard drive & therefore losing all the recordings nor does it allow manual scans so I can't scan Channel 54 alone. Fresh autoscanning does not find the channel 54 items so the problem remains. This is going to be a real pain if it happens every time there is this kind of update.

Colin Halton: COM6 which carries Film4, Yesterday and others has always been on C54 since switchover. Therefore if you were tuned to a different channel you must have been receiving it from another transmitter.
If the unwanted signals are outside the range of channels used by Bluebell Hill then you may be able to get around it by unplugging the aerial lead for that part of the scan. For example, Crystal Palace's are all in the 20s so unplug the aerial for the first 30% of the scan.
