Paul: just as an update, without me doing anything (apart from only watching SD channels since) the HD channels have Returned and I've been working perfectly since so I suspect they have been messing about with the transmitter and just not telling anybody

Paul:

If your reception is back to normal then it's quite possible there was unlisted engineering, sometimes the lists aren't 100% accurate. The other possibility could have been weather conditions causing interference from other transmitters. If problems reoccur, post back with some more detail including a full postcode so we can look at predicted reception in your locale.

Thank for the info. I'm having pixilation issues. Wish they'd hurry up and sort this transmitter out

Hmm, either they have had some significant problems or there's a possibility (all my guesswork) that it's because of quite a few changes needed that'll result in the BBC HD channels (& maybe ITV) being regionalised by the end of 2022 (as announced by the BBC a while ago). I've no idea exactly what work is needed at transmitters (I know there's got to be some major equipment changes), I'll have to try and find out.

Chris.SE: Most of the changes for PSB3 regionalisation will be at the coding and muxing centre where an additional set of coders will be setup for each new region, rather than any major changes at the transmitters, so the work taking place at Brierly Hill is extremely unlikely to be anything to do with regionalisation. Viewers might need to retune on the day the change takes place, but that should be publicised in advance.

Whilst I realise that's obviously the case, at present there are at least two separate lots of feeds to the transmitters and that is obviously costly. What we don't know is what changes are needed to rationalise all that and it could vary from transmitter to transmitter depending on what was installed (or even already there) at DSO. (Freeview Light transmitters could be a different kettle of fish as well depending on how they are fed, not all are off-air from the main transmitter).

If I'm not mistaken that "update" is actually going to become part of next week's list (although it carries the last week's date atm). I've seen these changes several times now in recent months, totally confusing for the uninitiated!
What they are actually doing at Brierley Hill is anyone's' guess.

Well, i realised I've probably jinxed it now, but the strength on the signal has increased today by 10-11% so same as the SD channels, and the picture is now stable.
