MALCOLM: The Chesterfield transmitter already broadcasts HD channels and has done (along with all other Freeview transmitters) since digital switchover completed back in 2012. You need a TV or set top box with the Freeview HD logo (if you TV says HD Ready that only refers to the screen being able to display a HD source and does not indicate that you have the required DVB-T2 tuner). With the correct equipment you will receive BBC1 HD, BBC2 HD, ITV HD, Channel 4 HD, Channel 5 HD & CBBC HD from the Chesterfield transmitter. Chesterfield does not broadcast the additional HD channels (such as BBC 4 HD, BBC News HD, BT Sport Showcase HD etc) however these are available from Emley Moor (if you provide a full postcode we can see the predicted coverage for your location and whether the additional HD channels from Emley Moor should be receivable. Also, there is no need to write your entire post in capitals which is generally considered to be shouting and is totally unnecessary.

Can you please tell me who is responsible for deciding/arranging which Freeview Channels are available from the Chesterfield(Unstone) transmitter.
I would like to watch the "Freesports" on channel 95 but this channel is not available in this area.

Stephen Wright: FreeSports is broadcast on the COM8 multiplex, which is a temporary service available from 30 main transmitters giving coverage of around 70% of UK households. COM7 & COM8 will not be added to any further transmitters and are expected to close by 2022. Commercial broadcasters wishing to broadcast on Freeview purchase capacity from a multiplex operator which gives them coverage from a defined list of transmitters, with capacity on multiplexes available from a higher number of transmitters (e.g. COM4/5/6 with 90% coverage from around 80 transmitters) being more expensive than capacity on a lower coverage multiplex (e.g. COM7/8).

Hi, we live in NE Derbyshire and pick up the signal from the Hundall mast, but we get TV covering Yorkshire! Why is it that we don't get East Midlands Today on the BBC instead of Look North which is irrelevant to us? Thanks

Ben Johnson:

Please provide a full post code so that we can look at which transmitters are potentially available to you. There could be many reasons why your are getting Yorkshire and not East Midlands services.

Ben Johnson: There doesn't seem to be a transmitter called Hundall listed, but if you mean the Chesterfield transmitter which you have posted under, it broadcasts both the BBC and ITV Yorkshire regions, not East Midlands.

As of 5/2/2020 we seem to have lost all ITV, Channel 4 & Channel 5 channels from Chesterfield Freeview transmission in post code S18 7WF with roof aerials.

Will this be rectified or is it permanent?

David Levitt:

Have you lost BBC channels as well? Have you retuned - I assume you saw the pop-up on screen messages that will have been posted over the last few days notifying of a retune on the 5th.Feb.?
The PSB1/BBC A & PSB2/D3&4 have moved UHF channel to C31 & C37 respectively. The other multiplexes remain on C29, C43, C46 & C40. There are no further retunes planned or reception changes indicated for this transmitter.

Chris.SE:

Thanks for your reply.
Yes we have BBC & Pick etc but no ITV Channel 5 etc. We did see the earlier notifications and so did a full re-tune and a factory settings restart many times on each TV and Video Recorder. Since they are all in the same state, I contacted the Freeview helpline, and after a few tests they are sending someone out next week to see what is causing the problem? We are in a week signal area so I am speculating that any change in the signal strength may be the problem, or perhaps the amplifier or aerial type?
