Thanks for the explanation but regretfully having tried removing my booster or the using of Attenuators things are not what they were prior to the changeover which for the past four years in a brand new house with all custom design leads were 100% for quality and 70% for strength
I today get 100% on both glitch free but if i remove the booster i get nothing as being in crawley i am on the edge
i could go with Reigate but i like to keep my house looking good from the outside and don't wish to have a outdoor aerial
Anyhow why should i I've always had a perfect picture with a loft aerial for the past 45 years wherever I've lived and i don't see the need for changing now having had a perfect signal for the past four years in this new house
However if we are going backwoods in technology at the expense of quality then i may have to
One of the very reasons in that i am a mvp for Microsoft is because i have the very odd way of looking and diagnosing problems in so much Steve balmore from Microsoft made me a mvp
If i have to at some point put an aerial outside of my house and i have exhausted all alternatives then i will remove the loft aerial and call it a day and just use the sat in future
My TV engineer is calling over next week with a brief in he's to bring over the top five aerials in the UK along with the 5 top boosters and the very best cable that is on the market and we start again from scratch
He does have the latest in signal field meters and he's going to have to explain why the work he did in the house no longer works and then set to work in a way that i understand and not what he understands my ideals are way above what he wants that's the Japanese part of me
A bit more thought and not just rush in and rush out may just be the answer

Tim: The aerial comes from the wall socket to the HD recorder and this is fed to the tv.
Last night I was actually getting a perfect HD picture from the DR. However, this morning it is breaking up again.

Big Mart, are all your fly leads made of satellite quality cable? A few years back I had a problem with break up, I replaced all my leads with f connector leads terminated in aerial plugs, my set up loops thru several items, sky box, digital recorder, tv and then is split going to a kitchen and bedroom tvs, the replacement of these leads to high quality ones solved the problems I was having. Sorry to keep flooding you with ideas I'm just trying to give you new avenues to go down. You may have already tried the above, I might teaching granny to suck eggs here.

Bishop's Stortford
Hi, I have posted here before on behalf of my daughter (who lives in Bishops Stortford) and had hoped that her problems would have been resolved after the switchover but unfortunately that is not the case, so here I am again!
She was able to get the BBC channels perfectly on 4 April 2012 after the switchover, but no ITV. After the final stage of the switchover she was able to get the ITV channels too, although not quite as well as the BBC. However, shortly after this date, she lost the ITV channels again! When she phoned the Digital switchover help line today, she was advised to retune the TV but still no ITV. She was then advised to retune the ITV channels to the Bishops Stortford relay transmitter, still without success. The mystery is why she suddenly lost the ITV channels again; could this be due to the terrible weather we have been having? The people at the helpline said it was probably due to some fault with the aerial and very unlikely anything to do with the transmitter. They also said it could be something to do with the TV itself; is this likely and how could it be rectified? Any suggestions would be most welcome.

pat it is probably due to the transmitter, i myself have spoken to Digital switch over and they always say what we already know about factory resetting of the TV etc and when this doesn't work they are lost and then go on to blame the callers installation
I would sit tight for the time being and hopefully Brian or mike will be able to find out behind the scenes as to what has gone wrong as at this time no one in authority is saying anything other then all is well

Pat Brock: If your daughter is using the Bishop's Stortford relay transmitter, then she will only get the Public Service channels which are BBC TV and radio, ITV1, ITV1+1, ITV2, Channel 4, Channel 4+1, E4, More 4, Channel 5 and the four HD channels.
BBC One should be tuned to C59 and ITV1 to C55 for this transmitter which is located on the Raynham Road Industrial Estate. This information is usually given on the signal strength screen.
If this isn't right, then run the automatic tuning scan with the aerial unplugged and plug in at 60% (or around UHF Channel 50). This should avoid the receiver picking up signals from other transmitters.

Thank you for your comments so far. It's all a bit confusing, to put it mildly! My daughter has been told that she is currently receiving BBC from Crystal Palace and the channel number would appear to confirm that. There is no problem with the BBC channels but she is unable to get any of the ITV channels either via Crystal Palace or Bishops Stortford. She has already tried keying in Channel 50, without success. As a matter of interest, is it possible to receive the BBC channels from one transmitter and the ITV channels via another on the same TV? I look forward to any further advice you may have.

Pat Brock: Yes, a receiver "can" tune BBC and ITV from different transmitters, but it is usually the case that one transmitter is used for all channels. Where this happens, then one (or both) must be tuned incorrectly (tuned to the wrong transmitter). This is liable to result in poor or intermittent reception due to the fact that signal being received does not come from the direction to which the aerial faces.
HD services from Bishop's Stortford transmitter are on C50, so if it's not a HD receiver, then it won't find anything, even if there is a signal present.
What your daughter needs to establish is what transmitter is the aerial points to. Crystal Palace is a bit clockwise of south and aerials are horizontal (elements flat).
For Bishop's Stortford relay transmitter, aerials are vertical (elements up/down) and will be pointing in the direction of Raynham Road Industrial Estate.
For ITV1, C4 etc from Crystal Palace, tune to C26.
A full factory reset "may" be necessary. Some devices remember remnants of previous configurations which could conflict now things have changed at switchover.
If it is Crystal Palace, then all its channels are low down (in the 20s). So when the automatic tuning scan is run, all its channels will be picked up in the first 30%, so unplug the aerial lead once it's passed that point as there's nothing else to pick up.

Pat Brock: Is it a fixed aerial that your daughter is using and is there a booster plugged in?
If there is a booster and it was needed prior to switchover, then I think that it is likely that the aerial points to Crystal Palace. Remove the booster as it could be causing the problem.

Hi.
We live in W5 and receive from the crystal palace transmitter. Following switchover we lost channels. I did a factory reset and rescan and now all of the channels are back and are in the correct order but all are unwatchable owing to bad reception, apart from channel 4 and ITV. We have a samsung TV with builtin freeview. Iv'e checked all of the cables and they are all quite new. Its driving me mad!
