Ihave tried the Sony tv direct with the aerial and the signal strength was 85% still bouncing a little the HD channels were also blanking out as before . I have fitted a tv aerial splitter so I can supply both tv's and the signal strength is 70% the BBC HD channels are okay but ITV HD is still blanking out but not quite as much as previously I think I have exhausted all possibilities with what I have maybe I should look into a new aerial .

Mike Batchelor: Something is not right.
BBC One HD, BBC Two HD, ITV HD and Channel 4 HD are all carried on the same multiplex (same signal) so either whatever is causing your issue happens to come into play when you watch ITV HD, or, for some reason, ITV HD is tuned to another transmitter.

Hi, hope you can help.
We've renewed our basic roof top aerial with a larger 48 element aerial so the flat below can share the drop via an U powered splitter. We previously had good reception for all channels, except film 4 would occasionally pixelate slightly in high winds / rain. With the new aerial all channels are ok except film 4 and ITV 4 which are far more prone to pixelation or complete loss of picture / sound, especially in cloudy weather like today (yesterday had blue skys and full picture!)
Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks

The problem with unpowered splitters is that they seriously reduce the signal strength, to about 1/3rd for each of the two TV sets and assuming they are both plugged in. (1/3rd for each TV tuner and the other 1/3rd lost in the splitter.) If one TV is unplugged the results can be catastrophic as the 75 Ohm matching no longer occurs.
I would advise using a low gain powered splitter designed for 75 Ohm UHF TV use and good quality cables with well fitted plugs. These splitters generally 'isolate' the outputs from each other and there is no significant loss of signal strength, there may even be some gain so be careful not to have too much gain/signal strength. However, cheap splitters can create conditions for interference and/or poor signal quality on some of the signals but others may be unaffected.

Craig: An 18 element group A yagi would probably deliver a stronger signal and with a lower wind loading! Slight repositioning of the aerial might improve reception of C28 ie raising or lowering, or mounting a few inches to either side of the present location.

Dave Lindsay Thank you for your advice . It could be the Hemel Hempstead transmitter which is only four miles away . I didn't use this transmitter because it is unmanned and has been unreliable in the past . I will check the ITV HD station setting .

Thanks for your advice, we've tried a bit of repositioning but it didn't give us any better reception and we're already using foil shielded cable.
I'll explore having a look a new aerial or powered splitter. Would a masthead amplifier do the job (Product: procception proMHD12M - 10dB) with a mains amp within the flat?
