I use a Log 36 (the modern version of a Log 40 wideband Log-periodic aerial) from ATV`s Choice Of Aerials for digital TV Other suppliers are available. It works perfectly for us as we are some miles away from the Mendiop transmitter.

Hi,
When we first moved to Dorking we could get TV reception. After we were told to move, we could not get TV coverage.
Now 14 years later, we have gone and bought a Smart TV. Our TV worked as a digital. Now after 4 months our TV says .....Weak / No signal.
We know there is nothing wrong with our aerial.....can our TV be turned off from Crystal Palace, Reigate or Dorking.

Jean: How do you know there is nothing wrong with your aerial?
If you were getting a useable digital signal before, you should get one now. The only changes could be:
A) the tuner in the new tv could slightly less powerful than the one before
B) you have accidently tuned into the wrong transmitter
C) your aerial system has a problem - check all leads etc.
It could well be that what you are missing is the muxes that moved because your aerial is now out if group, or that your tv has a software fault.
But the most likely reason is that you have a weak signal because you have a problem with your aerial. If you put your postcode into the site, you can see what sort of signal you are supposed to get, and then people can go from there.

Triax are good aerials and perhaps worth trying, I have only old experience with them back in analogue days. That your aerial installer has no knowledge of log-periodic aerials shows he is not worth using because of his limited knowledge.
I would suggest asking other aerial contractors and see if they know anything about log-periodic aerials. Else you could buy one yourself and have a contractor fit it for a smallish charge.
Log-periodic aerials have been in use for many years since long before the digital switchover. I used to work as a TV field service engineer in Nottinghamshire and many were used for reception from Waltham and Belmont transmitters, as well as the Nottingham relay. Before that I worked in Surrey and met many of them there used on Crystal Palace, Reigate and Croydon transmitters. So they are nothing new but provide reliable reception even when 'the powers that be' change the channels used by the transmitters.

MikeP: indeed mike and many thanks. I will purchase it and he can fit it. he installed a Technomate sat for me a couple of years back which was my idea and that works well albeit the wind taking it of course a fraction so he has to keep coming back once a year to realign it
it can't be helped as it's in direct firing line westerly hitting the sat head on and cant go anywhere else because of a wall of trees such is life (lol)

What has happened to Al Jazeera HD & BBC News HD and others that used Channels 32 (Hannington) and 33 (Crystal Palace)? (We can receive from both transmitters)
Since last Wednesday (18th April) we cannot get them on any Channel - not even 55, which I understand is the new Channel. Is Channel 55 transmitting? We can receive Channel 56 OK - Forces TV, Free Sports etc. So it is not aerial dependent. Have scanned every channel from 21 to 68 and there is no evidence of these programmes. What is the Channel for Al Jazeera & BBC News HD etc?
