Why did you have to move the aerial from the outside of the roof to the inside (loft)?

Outside aerials generally receive better signal strength than those in the loft because of the bricks, mortar, tiles, etc being 'in the way' of the signals. Did you have it properly aligned to point at the Crystal Palace transmitter? I ask because a friend live just off Russel Road and have excellent reception on a log periodic on the roof wiothout any need for an amplifier.

I would suggest having the alignment checked or perhaps replacing the current aerial with a log-periodic (to suit future channel allocations) mounted outside for preference. Be careful about amplifiers as too much signal strength often gives worse results as it's 'too much of a good thing' as quality is more important than strength. Similarly, too little can cause problems too! For most TV sets a strength displayed as between 50 and 80 % is adequate, more than that is usually too much! Less than that is often too little.

Hi, still having problems in Hertford despite retuning daily. Switches between high signal and none repeatedly across all channels or just some. Any ideas why? Never had any reception issue before.

COM7 seems to be booming in here in Reading, stronger than PSB3!

Have they increased the power?

Brian Gregory: Yes, it seems they have. I'm presuming that you use the Hannington transmitter to receive Freeview? If so, then you are correct to think that the ERP has been increased for the new com 7 multiplex. All the other multiplexes are either 25KW or 50KW. The come 7 multiplex on launch was 29.5kw, and it has now been increased to 36.7kw.

BRAIN GREGORY, If you use Crystal Palace, then it was 36.3kw on launch and has been increased up to 43.09kw now.

Thanks Kevin. I was meaning Crystal Palace. Hannington is blocked to some extent by trees here.

I am in an area of relatively good reception for the Crystal Palace transmitter (NW8 post code but signal obstructed by tall blocks) but we have a good roof mounted aerial on a very tall pole and have had never had any problems with the digital TV signal.

Just recently we are getting a significantly degraded signal on the ArqA Ch 22 signals, such that we either have horizontal lines, blocks, or even no signal. Reception of all other channels is completely unaffected.
