Jason New: Can you please provide a full postcode, it is hard to know what your reception issue might be without knowing your exact location.

I live in the CM1 area (Chelmsford)

One TV is tuned to Sudbury and is Ok; the other tuned to Crystal Palace with a Freeview box. About a week ago I noticed I was also getting excellent quality Sudbury transmissions on the latter in the early hours of the morning (800 series channels)

Later on each day the Sudbury transmissions are removed from the channel list automatically together with Channel 301.

Am manually adding Channel 301 each day.

Presume this may be as a result of Engineers testing on Crystal Palace transmitter before the c/over.

Bob Smith: I thing you mean UHF channel 31 since 301 is a red button service. Without a full postcode it's is hard to tell the real problem, but it is most likely ch 31 HD mux problems. You could remove the Crystal palace cable from the combiner, so you only get sudbury or vice versa.

Why has Crystal Palace's yellow service area got a straight saw toothy edge on its south-western side? Is it always going to be like this? (51.14,-000.04)

Hi,
My HD channels have fluctuating quality strength, standard freeview signal is very good at New Addington.
I have a loft aerial and have tweaked it's direction and checked connections, but to no avail, do I need a signal booster? any suggestions please.
David.

David Linkson: I would have a try at repositioning your aerial within the loft, as in many cases even moving it a few feet either way can prove to be very beneficial, that is provided you have some means of monitoring what's happening during the movement of the aerial.

However another possible reason exists for your problem, that being interference from Sandy's temporary use of transmission on Mux Ch31, this being the same frequency as used by the Crystal Palace HD service.

Although admittedly its usually people who reside to the North of London that can be plagued by this, the signal from Sandy could be fluctuating due to the atmospheric conditions prevailing and causing it to rise to a level that has started to affect reception in your area.

There really isn't anything you can do to rectify this situation, as any alterations to the aerial would also assist the station that's causing the problem.

Matt,

Thanks for reply. Sorry but didn't make things clear in my post. Both TV's have their own aerial. One pointed to Sudbury. The other (with the problem) and a Freeview box to C. Palace.

Postcode : CM1 6J* (1st 5 chrs)
(Springfield area of Chelmsford)

Believe what is happening (again today) is high quality Sudbury channels in 800 series + 301 Red button being picked up from C. Palace aerial - ? if transmitted from C. Palace for testing prior to C/over in 2012.

These then removed in early hours i/c 301. Believe Sudbury 301 overwrites C. Palace 301 in my Freeview box. Then removed when Sudbury channels removed. Leaving no C. Palace 301 in my Freeview box.

I manually add channel 301 each morning and it stays all day.

Do you have a wideband aerial? If so, it is quite possible that the aerial's front to back ratio is not very good. In other words, it can pick up quite a lot of signal from the back.

You could be better off with the one aerial on Sudbury with a 2 way amplifier/splitter feeding both televisions.

What channels end up in the 800s? Which signals are the most reliable?

Matt,

Thanks...

Possibility it's my aerial - it's wideband and over 20 years old - so will renew if needed - problems only started a couple of weeks ago.

Doubt if I'll go for an amplifier / splitter as it will require a lot of cabling.

At 0900 today did a Auto Channel search on my "London" TV with Freeview box. Picked up 23 "East Anglia" channels in the 800 series - all Ch 41 & Ch 44 with good quality signals.
(At 11.00 the 800 series still there)

Then plugged my other TV into the "London" aerial this morning and did a new channel search. Same result as above.

Bob
