Its only on HD.
I guess as we watch most BBC1 that might seem worse than others. Also can happen on BBC2 HD, ITV1 HD CH4 Hd, BBC News HD. As for BBC4 can't recall but not watched much.
It's something to do with type of program being broadcast as I said One Show studio shots it happened in the inserts it didn't.
Signal strength reduction does not help at any strength. Leeds local ch7 is weakest and is the one that disappears when attenuation large, but still works even a lot of errors on the error scale.

So can it be my aerial or TV set?

Have tried a mobile phone 4G filter in but no help.

No problem on BBC HD on satellite.

I need advise on a way forward please.

Signal strength on terrestrial transmissions seems to break down after around 10 p.m each evening, images pixilate, and eventually go completely.... why is this, when all is clear on Freesat??

A bit more info for MikeB regarding BBC4 HD and us not seeing breakup on that I realised tonight that probably we only watch movies on that and movies do not suffer the breakup.

David: Two important little points which I have not seen mentioned in any of your numerous (more recent) postings. (1) what make / model of TV or box are you using?, (2) and particularly important, your location?, this preferably being in the form of a post code or one from somewhere nearby, e.g: a shop / post office, this info enabling the terrain between the transmitter and your location to be checked out, particularly important if you are not line of sight with the transmitter.

Came across this although sound does show TV and transmissions can be incompatible.

I have contacted Samsung and they tell me they are aware of my problem and in conjunction with the broadcaster are working on a solution which will be ready soon.

David: Thanks for the update, the content of having somewhat confirmed my suspicion that the range of problems you have reported might possibly be connected with a software problem, the reason for me having enquired the brand of Freeview device you were using.

john: Hi,this seems to be widespread problem i thought disappeared with vhf tv but possibly has come
back to haunt us.It seems, possibly signal inversion has happened,in all such cases, renew all cable, plugs, etc then try inverting the aerial, try ground level. What happens is the signal field gets twisted
by the local terain and is no longer vertical or horizontal but is moving between the two states, hence
some channels will disappear and reappear at random, nearby high buildings, etc

I've had no Freeview nor Freesat reception since Saturday night. I've reset and retuned both of my set top boxes on numerous occasions resulting in now only having 12 Internet channels on my (BT) Freeview box. Some neighbours, on other streets, also have no reception, so I therefore concluded that it is probably a 'transmitter' problem. Please advise.
