denise farnaby: Will be looking forward to hearing the outcome of your test using the portable, but maybe you could clarify another point that's not too clear, this being when you say that you can still get the Analogue channels from Tyne Tees when the Freeview goes off, is this on the same TV but when its set to analogue?
There is also another thing that you could do which would be of assistance, and that is to carry out a signal strength / quality check whilst on BBC1 and note down what's indicated, then as soon as the picture goes off don't touch anything except to carry out another test exactly the same as before for the purpose of noting what differences are seen in the readings (especially quality) as although the picture will have vanished the signal level etc should still be seen indicated on a test, and giving a further update on the result.
By the way, if the attenuator you mention made no difference when fully on (max attenuation) then that's inclined to indicate that you have an excessively strong signal, although I would be interested to know what the result would have been if you had inserted the attenuator in line with your TV's aerial socket whilst you were viewing the signal / quality level "during" the aforementioned test, this irrespective of whether it was done with the picture there or not.

David Parker. No one will 'have a go at you' for expressing what is a valid and valuable opinion. For what it is worth, I fully agree with you AND Mr. Mansell that the iniquity is grossly unfair. I was simply trying to point out the reason for this iniquity but David took it upon himself to start being unpleasant and his complaint should have been directed in the first place to the IBA or his local MP, who MAY be able to help him. The people on here unfortunately can not help him with his particular problem as they have no control over what is transmitted or from where. I did say on the 29th of Feb that I didn't want to engage in a flame war but David seemed to insist on making petty remarks like 'Lost for words?' I'm sorry Sir but if someone is going to have a pop at me for trying to explain something then he is likely to get both barrels.
On the subject of your reception problem I am afraid that I can not help as I do not use HD but I am quite sure that there are others who can, and will, be happy to. Looking at your location, I would have thought that the Emley transmitter would give an excellent signal, could it perhaps be too strong? Thoughts anyone?

can anybody help with a thomson hdd recorder?
the signal should be waltham but it stores belmont and emley moor first?
this could be a find and store first fault due to the age of the box?
but this seems to interupt recordings forcing it to default an miss in its schedule?
panasonic tv on waltham is ok and actual picture on thomson ok (it is belmont tho?)
and the recorder works ok at a different address?
another thomson does the same fault when used at this address?
these boxes have no manual tune tho do ask for a set frequency for the 2 tuners ?
this is from an address in sth normanton in derbys

Ron Lake: The IBA hasn't existed for 20 years. It was replaced in 1990 by the Independent Television Commission, itself replaced by the Office for Communications, Ofcom, in 2003.
Ofcom have the power to require a new Technical Plan from the multiplex operator when the licence is up for renewal, requiring additional coverage. They renewed Mux A (SDN) in 2010 and have just renewed Mux C and D (ArqA/B), to run from 2014, without making use of this power. Speculating, they may have decided that it's better to renew on current coverage levels rather than require more and risk the operator deciding not to renew. There's no guarantee that another operator would be prepared to take it on, either.
The licences run for 12 years. Outside the renewal period, Ofcom can only vary the licence with the agreement of the multiplex operator. Changing that would require a change in the law, so actually, your MP is probably the best bet.
This may also fall into 'be careful what you wish for'. Extending the commercial muxes from additional transmitters may mean that other relays have to be retuned, or put up with more interference, or shut down entirely.

I quick question on MultiPlex's after looking over the stations on mux. I have noticed that there is no ITV3 (channel 10) on your listings. Is this a mistake or am i seeing things.

richard caywood: ITV3 appears as though it may be missing from all transmitter pages on this site. I checked Hannington, Stockland Hill and Sudbury and ITV3 is not shown.
It should be given as the first service on COM4: SDN.
Briantist, can you shed any light on this?

Mike Dimmick, Thanks for the info on current authority. I used what I knew was the IBA simply to differentiate between the Independents and the BBC. Much obliged for the update.
David Mansell, Please refer to Mike's post.
David Parker, Failing any reply from Brian or other knowledgable posters on here, I would be inclined to 'Google' Technika STBHDIS2010 and see if there is any info about it relative to this problem. I reckon your threat of the bin would have worked better with my wife than with your box, although both are inanimate objects which cause problems haha.
