russ: Thanks for that Mike - it's interesting to note that some of my receivers seem to be more liable to intermittent reception than others - Videomate TV capture card(PC running Win 7 and Win Media Center) in particular.

russ: It'll be down to the length of cable from aerial to each tuner (card) and the amount of electrical noise picked up. I would expect the noise level within a PC to be quite a bit higher than inside a regular box. The longer the cable, the more signal is lost, and more signal is lost at higher frequencies than lower ones.

Don't forget to retune tomorrow - Fenton is slated to be complete by 6am.

russ: USB DVB-T tuners can be kept away from the electrical noise of a PC by using long USB "extension" cables, but you can't do this with a tuner on a PCI card.

Hi, this seems a really comprehensive site but I still need help. I live in the ST13 area which I think gets a signal relayed from Fenton. We had what I thought was full freeview yesterday, but from what I can decipher we don't get multiplexes com 4,5&6 so don't get channels such as Dave etc.
There is nothing noted for after 21st Sept 2011, so is this as much as we will get in this area or is there somekind of final boost to give us all the channels in the future? Thanks in advance

P Costello: Your box has most likely picked up and stored Belmont which uses lower channel numbers, Winter Hill appearing to be the station covering your area.

Take the aerial out and carry out a scan without it, this to blank out the EPG memory, then BEFORE re-connecting the aerial carry out another auto-tune whilst at the same time observing the channels rising in the progress bar, then as soon as you see then getting to Ch52 plug the aerial back in again and that will allow Winter Hill to load.

Any problem with this method will require you to manually tune the channels in.

SB: If you are anywhere near the ST13 7.. area, then Winter Hill presently indicates as being a possibility, Sutton Coldfield in November, although Winter Hill is the best of the two.

But of course this is entirely dependant on local conditions applying, as predictors cannot really cater properly for this sort of thing.
