A.MCCARTNEY: KMTV is not broadcast from Heathfield. It is a local TV service broadcasting to the Maidstone and Tunbridge areas from the Bluebell Hill and Tunbridge Wells transmitters.

Is there reduced power from this transmitter today as a lot of our customers are calling saying they lost signal last night and are still experiencing problems.

T.MAYS, Mrs Head & Mr A Clark: The problems you are seeing are very likely cause by the high atmospheric pressure affecting various parts of the country, causing lift conditions which allow signals from distant transmitters which cannot normally be received to interfere with the signals from the transmitter you normally use. Do not attempt to retune as this will delete all of your channels which are already correctly tuned. As this is an entirely natural phenomenon, all you can do is wait for the atmospheric conditions to return to normal.

For about the past 3 or 4 weeks weeks I have stopped being able to receive freeview HD channels. At times ive retuned and lost all channels, and then retuned and recieved a few channels. Subsequent retunes have resulted in getting more channels, but never Freeview HD (eg 1- 5).

Ive done a factory reset of the BT Youview box several times, but still not got HD channels back. They don't even get identifed. BT are sending me a new Youview box but suspect its not that.

Tuning with the aerial directly in to the TV identified lots of channels but all with quality 1 - this leads me to believe either my Aerial is faulty, or there is a transmission problem and the Youview box is amplifying the weak signal - is that plausible?

Finbar:
a) Check which transmitter your on - if you've tuned into the wrong transmitter, then your signal will be rubbish. Heathfield or Midhurst, although Crystal Palace wouldn't be impossible.

b) check each part of the chain from your aerial to the TV/PVR. Humax's actually have very sensitive tuners, so if your getting a rubbish signal and you are tuned into Heathfield, its certainly something to do with your system. people often think that somehow 'they' turn down the signal strength or stop broadcasting certain channels, but of course 'they' dont. The only time there is a weak signal or transmission stops, they will usually tell you, and it will be normally hours, at most. If its weeks, its you.

Losing HD signals is a sign that its your system and that its a weak signal - they often go first.

You could start with the aerial lead from the wall - easy to replace and often the source of the problem, in that its just come lose.
