Hi--since yesterday (Friday AM) i have been unable to receive HD channels on both my TV sets which receive signals from a roof mounted aerial- carried out auto tune on both sets but still no HD channels. I live in Abbots Langley Herts and receive signal from Hemel hempstead transmitter which i note was having work undertaken during the early hours of Friday.

Any idea what may be my problem?

Many Thanks

Malcolm

Malcolm Trotter:

Please put your full post code into this website so that we can check the predicted reception conditions at you location.

There has been some engineerin g work done on the transmitter in the last few days and you may now find that a wideband aerial is required to get all the available channels.

MikeP: Thank you for your reply-- my aerial is rooftop mounted pointing directly at the Hemel Hempstead transmitter which i can see from my property. The aerial is approx ten years old and has not been problematic. As stated earlier i am receiving all other channels on both my TV sets with no interference.

Ive tried the Freeview reset on both sets with no changes resulting.

I have typed in my postcode into this website and the web shows i should be receiving a good signal including HD signals from the Hemel transmitter

i was aware of the problem on my main TV when i turned it on Friday morning with a message no channels available where upon i carried out Auto Retune resulting in the absence of HD channels.

My other TV was still receiving channels but reported the HD channels as lost or weak signal. i carried out an auto retune on the second set but to no avail.

regards,

Malcolm T

Transmitter engineering: Hi I'm a local handyman in Hemel Hempstead and I have received lots of customers contact me over losing channels like BBC1&2, is there a problem with the transmitter or is this a permanent frequency change and will they have to buy a new aerial?

Malcolm Trotter & Anthony Collins: Since the recent frequency changes, viewers using the Hemel Hempstead transmitter may need a wideband aerial to receive all multiplexes. If the missing channels cannot be restored by retuning, you should contact the Freeview Advice Line (see link below) who will arrange for a replacement wideband aerial to be fitted (free of charge for viewers who don't have satellite or cable).

Thank you for the advice-- called Freeview re the above and attempted several manual and auto retunes over the phone but still have same problem. Freeview advise they have no record of any Hemel Hempstead transmitter recent retunes or recent engineering work.

Freeview did however state they had received a similar channel loss inquiry today from the same area

New free replacement aerial only undertaken if they have carried out a planned retune with a transmitter.

Was advised to wait a couple days as the missing channels may return (similarly advised by local TV shop).

Looks like might be an aerial issue and was given the number of a local aerial company they approve based in Apsley
