The symbol shows the location of the Mendip (Somerset, England) transmitter which serves 720,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Mendip (Somerset, England) mast?

Can anyone confirm tat the COM 7 HD multiplex is operating from the Mendip mast?
I have tried tuning channel 33 as given above but can find no signal. All signal levels are at 8 to 10 on the signal strength and quality meter for both normal and HD channels. Tried complete retune but still did not find COM7.

Tuner is Panasonic PVR 9 months old . Can receive with good strength signals for Wenvoe or Rowridge which have lower channel numbers than for Mendip so don't think that there is a problem with the aerial or PVR. In fact it's a pest, so normally manual tune.

Postcode BA8 0JX 17

Look forward to a response.

There could be a number of possible sources, therefore in order for anyone to provide an answer with any level of accuracy its essential to know where you are located relative to that of the Mendip transmitter.

bruce : Checking back on your previous postings provided me with the info required, and although none of the alternative signal sources matches up exactly with the direction your aerial is facing the signal is possibly being picked up from either Stockland Hill or the Rowridge transmitter, Wenvoe being another possibility.

Your best action would be to carry out a signal check whilst on BBC1 (likewise on ITV1), the purpose not being so much to check the level of the signal being received but to observe the Mux channel number indicated along with the strength / quality bars.

Stockland Hill : BBC1 Ch26 - ITV1 Ch23.

Wenvoe : BBC1 Ch41 - ITV1 Ch44.

Rowridge : BBC1 Ch24 - ITV1 Ch27.

If though none of the channel numbers mentioned matches up, then check the Mux channel numbers indicated on the two programmes mentioned and give an update on the results.

I finally got around to fitting a new aerial. I fitted in the loft because reaching the roof in this house was too difficult. First I bought a cheap aerial but it wouldn't pick up PSB3, though it got all the other MUXes, including the local one. Then I bought a second cheap aerial, one of the ones with three rods (don't know what they're correctly called). It worked but but reception of PSB2 was dodgy unless I used an amplifier. I then improvised. The loft mounting rod I bought was too short, so I bought a wooden broom handle that fitted in the bracket. I mounted the aerial higher up and pointed the nose more noticeably upwards and the problems with PSB2 were solved. The reception quality went from about 55% to 100%. Oddly, the MUX with Pick on it stayed with a signal quality of about 78% but that seems good enough for error-free reception. The local MUX only has a signal strength of 28% but gives a quality level of 100%.

To make sure that the aerial was facing the right direction, I used the compass app on my phone.

The aerial that works is made by Labgear and I have found their products very good in the past. The aerial that wouldn't pick up PSB3 I'll use for my bedroom TV that doesn't have HD reception capabilities.

I use Mendip as our main signal source and have no problems. All the transmitters are working correctly broiadcasting all the intended mutliplexes. (Transponders are what satellites use to rebroadcast the signlas uplinked to them.)

If you have problems with one particular programme but the others on the same multiplex are OK then you may need to look at you own equipment settings. The com7 mux has several other programmes and they all appear to be working correctly

Nothing on the com7 multiplex (BBC Four HD etc) from Mendip is receivable by me in Bristol. Because it is on channel 33 a wideband aerial is probably required, which is a bit of a pain.
