Is there a reason why channels 3, 4 & 5 have become noticeably pixelated over the last few weekends in BA14? During the week they appear to be more stable and 1 & 2 are unaffected.

Neil Macey:
The transmitter is currently listed for Planned Engineering and has been for a few weeks with "Possible effect on TV reception week commencing 25/03/2024 Pixelation or flickering on some or all channels".
See information at the top of the page and previous posts (p237).
Signal strengths appear to be normal at the time of posting this.
Do check obvious things like your aerial looking intact and still pointing correctly, and that all accessible coax connections are good with no corrosion or water.
If you are still having problems we'd need a full postcode to check predicted reception and whether you have any aerial amplifier/splitter to feed more than one TV/device.

Chris.SE:The prediction for his location as given in earlier messages is excellent! Perhaps there is an obstruction to the line of sight which renders that prediction invalid, or local interference at weekends, or some fault with his aerial system?

Thanks for that, I was in a rush earlier and didn't have time to check back on previous posts, hence the "standard" reply.

Chris.SE: Thought that might be the case. Where's the resident line-of-sight expert gone? We need him!

From my quick checks, line of sight isn't an issue, more local factors are probably contributing to the problem.

Having had a look back at previous difficulties, I'm wondering what aerial you have now and where it's located.
Is it in a loft? Are you in a bungalow or house? Still got an amp/splitter etc.?
I'm guessing that there's now a lot of more mature trees around your postcode and if there is any quite dense growth nearby on the line of sight, this will not be helping.
Is there anything new in the direction of the transmitter, no scaffolding on a neighbour's house, or yours? Any solar panels, new metal flue? etc.etc.

Neil Macey:
Nearly forgot, also, do check you are tuned correctly to Mendip's UHF channels and not the nearby low powered Westwood Relay transmitter.
For Mendip, your aerial should be pointing at compass bearing 246 degrees, almost WSW, with its rods (or squashed Xs) horizontal.
