From location RH149QS

Intermittent 'no signal' message on screen.

Tuned into Midhurst transmitter.

All channels appear to show good signal strength. But signal quality mostly zero. Though sometimes channel 34 shows reasonable quality and shows picture and sound ok.

Please can you cure this problem from Midhurst transmitter?

Thanks.

Robert:

There are currently no reported problems with the transmitter and it's not been listed for Planned Engineering recently. This is an independent technical help-site so we couldn't cure a problem if there was one and for Planned Engineering you'd have to wait until work was complete.

What you are probably seeing is down to current weather conditions, there is some tropospheric ducting/temperature inversion which sometimes occurs with high pressure, more common in the summer but can occur at other times.
This produces interference as signals from other transmitter in Europe or the UK travel further than normal. The set will often initially see this as a reduction in signal quality until the point it cannot decode the signals and the signal can go to zero as it looks just like noise.
Current conditions are quite strong and are periodically affecting large parts of the UK.

Not all multiplexes will be affected at the same time, it'll depend on where the interference is coming from. Do NOT retune, retuning when you have no signal or badly pixellated pictures often just clears the correct tuning or you get tuned to an interfering signal which will disappear as conditions change.

The BBC have issued warnings.
For a simplistic explanation, see https://www.bbc.co.uk/rec…ure.

Since the fine weather started, I have been unable to watch ITV or BBC channels without constant interference. ITV is the worst, with both sound & vision badly affected. I have taken advice from a local aerial co., who say it is 'just the weather'. I am a lone pensioner who watches a lot of TV so this is very annoying. I am reduced to viewing on my laptop!
Please help.

Thank you.

Sylvia Knowles :

I'm afraid there is a lot of weather related interference around at present, both the BBC and Freeview have issued warnings about possible interference.
One thing NOT to do is retune whilst you have badly affected sound or pixellated pictures as this can clear the correct tuning and possibly get you tuned to incorrect weaker signals which will continue the problem.
IF you have retuned, check in your TV Tuning Section that you are correctly tuned to Midhurst's UHF channels as listed at the very top of this page (get a friend to help if need be).

If your aerial installation is up-to-scratch, there is little you can do except wait for conditions to change. How old (roughly) is the aerial and cable?
Do you have any aerial amplifier/splitter for more than one TV?

Another possibility is interference from Mobile phone mast signals which may cause direct interference or reduce the sensitivity of your receiver depending on their strength and make reception less reliable. You should have received a postcard from https://restoretv.uk/
In your case, without the weather related issues, your BBC channels may be affected the worst.

If you post back with a bit more information, we might be able to advise further.

As shown at the top of the page, you need a Group K aerial with it's rods (or squashed Xs) horizontal.

Midhurst

Postcode GU29 0EH House no.2 recently moved in.
My Sony TV does not show the Midhurst transmitter in the available transmitters in the retune / setup menu it only shows Southampton and Salisbury
Reception is poor on most channels with pixelation notably on PSB2 TV channels i.e. ITV, Ch4, etc.

TV aerial is in the loft space and not sure which direction its supposed to be pointing.
I believe the Midhurst transmitter is 5-6km away roughly in a northerly direction from my new house.
What would be the line of sight to the Midhurst transmitter in degrees east or west of due north of my property?
It would be easy to redirect the aerial as its in the loft.
Any advice on the correct direction / alignment would be most welcome.
Thank you.
