Hello,

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere and I'd be grateful for a signpost if it iis. I am very confused about BBC News 24 HD reception in my area. I moved here last November and received the HD channel sporadically (signal strength was variable). Then it just vanished completely for no reason.

I'm receiving BBC1, 2 and 4, ITV, Channel 4, 5, QVC, CBBC all in HD without any problems. Postcode is SO18 and set to Rowridge transmitter. Any ideas on how to get BBC News 24 in HD?

Thanks!

JM: Apart from the possibility of an iffy aerial connection, double check any jumper leads used, the other thing that springs to mind is whether your aerial is mounted vertically (elements up/downwards) or horizontally? as some viewers have aerials mounted vertically to take advantage of the TX power being higher on COM4/5/6 on vertical over that on horizontal, whereas BBC News HD is only transmitted on horizontal polarity at a much lower power that even the three COM's mentioned on horizontal, BBC News HD on COM7 at 24Kw, the other three COM's being on 50Kw.

Apart from having a look up the aerial to check the polarity, try manually tuning in COM7 on C31/554.0Mhz, but do not press search after having entered 31, because if anything is being received the level the signal is being received at will appear in the signal strength bars.

Further advice as required.

Juliette: Check the box by plugging it into another tv - if its not working, then its the box, but check first if its your aerial system at fault.

However, if itsa sky box (you mentioned the remote), then thats skys problem.

This site is now showing vertical polarity of COM4/5/6 as being derated to 50Kw rather than 200Kw. This was the reason for vertical polarisation of the aerial. Has this really been derated as if so, it would make sense to change back to horizontal to get the additional 2 MUX?

Ian: Its possibly an error caused by technical glitch on the site, as COM4/5/6 on vertical polarity is still listed by Digital UK as being on 200KW.

Ken Valenrine: There are no faults or engineering work listed for Rowridge so assuming this is the correct transmitter that you are using (if you provide a postcode we can check) there is something wrong with your aerial system. Start at the back of the TV and check all cables and connectors are in tight then work back as far as you can safely access towards the aerial.

Ken Valenrine: I 'm not getting any Freeview satelite signals at all in Newport Isle of Wight. Everything is dead. I have switched over to terrestrial TV which has a good signal. Could the wind have something to do with this at Rowbridge. I will check my cables as a matter of course. 19:27 pm

Regards ...Keith
