If you answer these few questions I may be able to help.
1. your location
2. does your system have an amplifier
3. how many connections on the system
4. age of aerial
5. when did your problems start
6. is the aerial mounted outside or in a loft
reception issues can be down to poorly sited aerials or connection and equipment issues.
regards
Jamie

Jamie,
The problem seemed to fix itself by about 22:00 last night. I noticed there was a bit of interference earlier this evening but again it is back to normal.
I live in Southampton city center in a flat with a communal aerial (SO14). The building is about 5yrs old.
The cables and connections appear to be fine.
No splitters or amplifiers.
Itv 1, channel 4 and E4 were the worst quality signal.

Jamie .. The aerial is only weeks old and was installed when we bought the new DVB TV set at the end of Feb this year. It was fine on analogue right up until switchover/off but often lost reception on digital. After full switchover the rigger came and changed polarity to vertical and digital became better on some of the channels but occasionally stuttered on ones such as Pick, Dave, Sky News and some others.
BBC 1,2,3,4 etc was fine until yesterday until all went off and again this evening with the whole lot going off at 21:00
The lead is direct from the aerial to the back of the set and is the same age as the new group A (red ended) aerial.
I called the aerial rigger this morning and left a message but as he has not bothered to reply I can only assume he does not want to sort anything out that is sortable.
If this is DVB than this is one viewer who will flatly refuse to pay his licence next year and it will be great to have my say in court ...GRRRRR!!!

Solent-Viewer: Its really quite impossible to give any advice of a constructive nature without knowledge of your locality, this in the form of a post code or at least one from somewhere nearby, as only with this knowledge can the signal levels expected in your area be assessed.

Please can you tell me why we get such a bad picelated reception from this stations transmitter. This has been like this since the change over. When I had the old cheap set top box with terestial transmission I had no problems but this service which is supposed to be the be all and end all is total rubbish.
This service should never been released until it was right.
I live over in West Sussex near Littlehampton and have always had good reception. The channels affected are 11, 12, 15, 19, 20, 21, and 24. At the change over a new areal had been installed and the BT Vision system. Everything comes back to the transmission of signals from Rowridge station. The digital sighnal is transmitted vertically as wel as horizontally so why the problem.
I look forward to you with a solution to this problem.
Regards.
Chris Verrinder.

Chris Verrinder: The services you identify are carried on the Commercial multiplexes which have a lower transmission power horizontally, so your aerial should be vertical.

Hi,
in my experience your location had a very strong signal even prior to switchover.
As both you and your neighbours are experiencing the same issues I would imagine it is due to TOO MUCH signal being received.
This can only be determined by a system test, however you could try fitting a attenuator to reduce you signal level.
Are your aerials on yours and your neighbours mounted in the loft of externally? this could be another issue.
Information provided by a Digital Approved Installer.
The only true way to find out what is the cause is to have your system tested.
regards
Jamie.

SOLENT VIEWER.
an after thought.....
as you have a new aerial vertically installed, it must have been fitted since switchover, maybe you should ask the original install company to come a rectify your signal issues.

Jamie.

PLEASE FORGIVE ME, I DID NOT SEE YOUR PREVIOUS RESPONSE TO ME :)
In your area it should make absolutely no difference to your reception having a HP or VP installed aerial.
The fact that the installer has came out and changed your system to VP could indicate a couple of things, either
something is obscuring your reception or the install hasnt been done very well.
I would imagine that as your neighbours have the same issue it could be down to location.
Your aerial may need moving to a different part of the building.
Aerial location is key to good reception, sometimes I can spend 1 hour trying different parts of peoples homes to find the best location for reception (thankfully this is not common).
If you have had problems from day 1, I can only assume that the install company did not make much effort to check the aerial was being fitted in the best location!!
If you have no further luck with your original install company, I do cover your area should you require further assistance.
regards
Jamie.
