Is there any future proposal to add channels like PBS America and SMITHSONIAN to Stockland Hill's output or is my only long-term option on these channels to change to Beacon Hill with inevitable drop in reliability due to the extra distance?

Ken Ebborn:

I'm afraid that Beacon Hill no longer transmits the COMs 7&8 multiplexes that carries these channels either. At the moment Freesat would seem to be the only option or for PBS America this should be available on My5 if you have a suitable Broadband connection (& smart tv or box!).

It seems that similar Changes to the Freeview channel line-up in Plymouth, parts of Devon and east Cornwall | Freeview also applies to Beacon Hill & Stockland Hill.

If you actually mean LCN48 - Sony Channel, this and several other of Sony's channels are now only broadcast on Local Multiplexes. These changes were made by Sony a while ago. See Channel listings | Freeview for which channels (LCNs) are on which multiplexes.

There are no Local Multiplexes broadcast from Stockland Hill if that's your main transmitter.

True Entertainment are broadcast only on the local services that is not available from all transmitters. If you get local services on LCN 7 or 8 then you should be getting True Entertainment. If you do not get the local services then you will not be able to watch any of the Sony channels.

The Freeview Detailed Coverage Checker does predict good reception from Stockland Hill, however it's not quite as good as Mendip for the COMs4-6 multiplexes if you are at the high number end of the road. Also Stockland Hill does not transmit the COMs 7&8 multiplexes, so if you want any of those channels, you won't get them
Channel listings | Freeview

For all the multiplexes from Mendip you need a Group T aerial (Wideband will do) pointing ~NNE (bearing 21 degrees). For Stockland Hill a Group A aerial is quite adequate, although a Group K or T/Wideband will do pointing bearing ~SW (223 degrees). Both transmitters horizontally polarised.
