The symbol shows the location of the Stockland Hill (Devon, England) transmitter which serves 120,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Stockland Hill (Devon, England) mast?

Having no SDL from Dtockland Hill and no D1 from Bridport is a disgrace

Andrew : D1 and SDL are commercial multiplexes, they have no obligation to cover any particular area or broadcast from any particular transmitter. Adding D1 to Bridport would only gain coverage over a small area. SDL are mainly focused on covering large/densely populated towns and cities, which Stockland Hill wouldn't add much to, as SDL is already broadcast from Exeter St Thomas and Beacon Hill, which cover the most populated areas that would be covered by Stockland Hill.

I have been having problems with Freeview for weeks! I have lost several channels, which the transmitter is supposed to transmit & now all the BBC channels have gone, including radio ones too! I have had the aerial & cables checked by a qualified TV installer and no problems found. My aerial is on the roof of my house. I have retuned several times and every time I do I lose more channels?! Help.please!! Thank you. No. 40 BA20 1BB

Emma W: Stockland Hill is currently listed by Freeview has having engineering works:

https://www.freeview.co.uk/corporate/platform-management/planned-engineering-works

While details of exactly what is being carried out is never given, perhaps the engineering works are resulting in inability to receive channels at your location.

There are no changes occurring which would necessitate a retune. In regards retuning in such a situation, this is only likely to result in channels being lost from the TV's memory.

The first step of the automatic tuning procedure is to delete everything that is currently stored. It then scans the frequencies, the objective being to pick up what was deleted in the first place.

Having lost some channels following a retune, I suggest you use manual tuning to add back the missing multiplexes. You could find you have to do it repeatedly because the signal has not become available to you again.

UHF channel numbers for Stockland Hill are as follows (the "C" number is the UHF channel number to tune to):

PSB1 / BBC A = C26
PSB2 / D3&4 = C23
PSB3 / BBC B = C29
COM4 / SDN = C25
COM5 / Arq A = C22
COM6 / Arq B = C28

A full list of Freeview programme channels is here:

https://www.freeview.co.uk/corporate/platform-management/channel-listings-industry-professionals

This shows which multiplex ("mux") each service is on, there being six main multiplexes. For example, you said you have lost BBC TV channels and radio. BBC standard definition TV and radio are carried on multiplex PSB1 ("BBC A") which is on UHF channel 26 from Stockland Hill.

Emma W:

Whilst echoing the above, I'm surprised that your qualified installer didn't check your tuning for you and advise NOT to retune as you cannot tune to signals that aren't there or can't be decoded, the usual outcome is as Steve has said, the tuning is lost - OR - you may also get incorrectly tuned to weak signals from another transmitter, even those to the rear of your aerial!

Did your installer measure the signal strength at the aerial socket where your TV is? If so, do you know what the figures were?

Your location is predicted to get reasonable signals from Mendip, but they will be weak when received on the back of the aerial, so if you'd got tuned to any of those signals whilst there was no signal from Stockland Hill that could also explain what you are currently seeing.
Steve has explained about manual tuning and which UHF channels you should be tuned to, do check in your TV Tuning section that those UHF channels (or some of them) are the only ones you are tuned to. If you see any other UHF channel numbers then you will be best to clear the TV Tuning memory first before manual tuning.
To do that, unplug the aerial and do an automatic retune, so with no signals the tuning ought to get cleared. Then proceed with manual tuning.
