Eddie stacey: Yes, the symptoms described would indicate a power supply module failure, what puzzles me is why the engineer who diagnosed the problem did not offer? to search around for a low cost second hand replacement PCB module, as one is even being currently advertised by a trade dismantler on e-bay for £35.00 + £4.00 P&P, the item in question being guaranteed for 30 days and which allows more than ample time for any faults that may exist in the board to show up, as buying new does not by any means always guarantee 100% reliability as some new components (particularly I.C's) can on the odd occasion fail after a few hours use.

My aerial was bashed about in the recent storms, and fell apart, so bought a new one, another WB High Gain, butr whilst up the ladder, and seeing the coverage charts showed both Bluebell Hill and Dover as alternate options, thought I'd give it a go, but no matter what direction I pointed the aerial it always picked up Sudbury, with not a sniiff of the others :-( (Post Code CO7 )

Steve Williams: Thats not really surprising considering the fact that those other stations referred to are indicated as being unreliable (if received at all!) on the reception predictor.

Hi is it possible to have an indoor amplifier that does not plug into the mains, if so what would the amplification be?

John: If you are looking to install an amplifier somewhere where there is no power supply then you need an amplifier with separate power supply. The power supply will sit behind your TV.

Briantist : re:- Steve Williams, yes indeed! but only if a signal of any significant level could be received from Rouncefall and something I very much doubt, especially by it being located at 24 miles away from him and only radiating on 4Kw compared to Sudbury's 100Kw at only 14 miles away, Steve being line-of-sight from it.
I feel that his signal in his area is possibly that strong the null points on his aerial hasn't been noticed, and with rear reception levels on some aerials not being that terribly much different from a signal approaching from the front..
Still, nothing is ever exact where RF reception of a UHF nature is concerned.

Thank you for all the replies, whereas I knew the reception would be at best iffy, I thought I may have found something ! :-) but it seems Sudbury swamps everything, being on 25 / 30 miles away. Not like the good old days when I lived just outside Norwich, with rotator, amp and WB HG aerial, with ANGLIA. SOUTHERN. THAMES and sometimes ATV & YORKSHIRE :-) :-)

Steve Williams: Sudbury (308 degrees) is only 14 miles away from your location, but as far as those other stations mentioned are concerned you could if you wish carry out an ITV1 mux signal test on each of them, this achieved by going into your TV or boxes tuning menu / manual tune and entering Dovers C51 (714.00Mhz) but NOT followed by pressing search or scan after having entered the number, because on most devices if any signal is being received the level / quality of will appear in the signal indicator bars as this procedure causes the tuner to act like a signal meter.
If nothing is seen then change the number entered to Bluebell Hills C43 (650.00 Mhz) and see if anything appears, you could even try Crystal Palaces C26 (514.00Mhz) although judging by that indicated on two separate prediction sites I am very doubtful if anything will be seen from either Dover or bluebell Hill but "might" from Crystal Palace, as every one of its muxes are indicated as being receivable at your location albeit with the status of "variable".
By the way, Dover is located at 167 degrees / 53 miles and with Bluebell Hill at 208 degrees / 43 miles, Crystal Palace at 235 degrees / 57 miles.
