My post code is ST15 0PQ near Stone in Staffordshire. My TV aerial is directed towards Sutton Coldfield transmitter but being high up I can see the Wrekin from the village.
Recently I have had problems with BBC 1 HD going off saying "no signal". Checking the signal levels I found the my TV was actually tuned to CH30 for this and other HD programmes where I also have problems. I believe CH30 is from the Wrekin transmitter which maybe is why the signal level is good & constant bet the quality level varies drastically.
I have now retuned but instead of accepting the sorting sequence highlighted, I stepped down one & used GBR sorting. I now have BBC1 HD on CH40, with perfect signal level & quality.
I hope this can help anyone with similar problems

Over the last week or so, we have been experiencing loud 'Click' sounds on several channels, loudest of all on Channel 4. Are there any problems with the transmitter or could it be weather conditions.

Andrew Harrington: Engineering work is presently taking place at the Sutton Coldfield transmitting station, likewise the problem referred to could well be related to events at said station, a notice warning of "possible weak signal" having been posted on the engineering page.

Hi

A friend of mine in her 80s at WR1 1NY Worcester is having trouble receiving Channel 19 Yesterday on COM6,
no signal on her digital TV, I did a channel retune lunchtime but no channel listed. I have read that if you lose
one channel you lose the lot, so I will check the other channels tonight when I take her home. She has been having problems the last couple of weeks. Sutton Coldfield has a weak signal at the moment! Is this the problem? She has a roof aerial.

I live at WR9 7LE and have experienced no problems so far.

PS. I used to receive you email updates and luckily found your site again.

David Attwood: Malvern (@ 7.5mls/219 degrees, aerial vertical polarity) is listed as the station covering your friends area, Sutton Coldfield (@ 32 mls/ 30 degrees) indicated as not being receivable with the exception of an extremely poor and unreliable signal from its BBC B HD Mux.

Malvern's Mux channels being : BBC-53 / ITV- 57 / BBC B HD- 60 / COM4- 50 / COM5- 59 / COM6- 55.

Mux channels only mentioned in case you decide to give your friends TV a manual tune.

David Attwood: further to jb38's advice, a look at streetview shows aerials also pointing to Ridge Hill (same direction as Malvern, but uses horizontal polarisation), The Wrekin and somewhat oddly, Kidderminster. As a consequence there is plenty of scope for receivers to be tuned to a different transmitter to the one that the aerial is pointing to.

KMJ,Derby: Yes, quite so, as a Google roof top check over a relatively short distance in the area in question reveals a number of aerials pointing in a variety of directions, the fact of most of being mounted on tall poles somewhat suggesting that reception in this area is a tad on the iffy side, Ridge Hill as you will no doubt have seen, predicting variable reception on its PSB channels.

Is there work being done on the Sutton Coldfield transmitter as this is the 2nd evening in a row I have not been able to get any of the channels on CON4 ( 5USA, ITV3, Horror etc ) yet come the morning they work fine. They seem to lose signal around 6 pm.

Steve Gee : As there are no faults nor engineering work taking place at the Sutton Coldfield transmitter, then this suggests that the problem is caused by something connected with your installation. However its not really possible to make a proper assessment of the situation without prior knowledge of your location, this preferably being in the form of a post code or one from somewhere nearby, e.g: a shop / Post Office.
