We have real problems getting decent digital signal here in the S edge of Hermitage. We are on a N facing hill so even though Hannington is there nearest transmitter, it is shielded from us by the hill. We are also surrounded by trees. Many times the picture breaks up and and then there's no signal for some minutes. Any suggestions for improving reception would be gratefully received. As with most of our neighbours we have a good aerial and mast-head amplifier.

Richard Marshall: If you can't get line-of-sight to the transmitter, you won't get reception.
I would suggest you use Freesat - see All about Freesat | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

Well it went again last night, again the signal strength on Mux 2 was Red 2 and on all the other Mux's between 7 and 10 amber to green.
The signal quality monitor for all was in the green at an average 8.

Note new info on what happens during and after DSO published recently http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/binaries/broadcast/guidance/tech-guidance/Central.pdf
A few detail changes from above ie C60- and C62 likely moving to C49 (800MHz clearance). Doubt if C29 ever will be used for DTT, the docs state return to C/D aerial group.
I'm currently at 100% quality on all muxes, when power is raised (sometime after DSO, maybe after Crystal Palace?) I reckon a lot of attenuators are going to be needed...

mst: Yes, many people have had to fit attenuators (or at least disconnect boosters) when switchover happens.
