Does the transmission of Mux 2 from Crystal Palace get any better than low? We have frequent problem with our freeview box dropping this Mux. We live in a block of flats and we are waiting for the aerial equipment to be upgraded (though I kind of know that our particular problem is between the point in our flat and the aerial)

I'm toying with the idea of trying an indoor aerial because we are quite close to the transmitter

parkesy: As you are only 4mls away from the transmitter and if you don't have any major obstructions between you and it, then I would say that your idea of trying out a set top aerial is possibly quite OK, albeit that they are extremely vulnerable to movement (in room) obstructions.

Transmitter engineering:

We share a communal tv ariel in the flats, that has been in use since 1970.
From the 25th June we have lost reception from channels itv1,itv2,channel four and channel 5.
There has been a lower television reception in these channels, with quite a lot of pixcelation.

Hi, please could you let me know whether my location (Goodmayes, Essex/Greater London) is in a Strong/Medium/Weak signal area, and also whether Crystal palace is the best transmitter to be pointing at (12.5 miles away).

Could anyone please advise on type of aerial for either indoor (loft) and outdoor (mounted on chimney) for this location?

C: Judging by indications on the trade predictor using the post code provided, it would appear that you are in a reasonably strong signal area, and as such you probably wouldn't require an aerial larger than a DM log periodic, or if you preferred a standard 8 or 10 element group A aerial.

These might work OK in the loft, but it depends on whether or not they would be pointing through the tiles, this reducing the signal in wet weather, whereas if pointing through a gable end not near so much so.

If of course the situation permits, then chimney mounted always eliminates the possibility of the problems mentioned occurring.

Hi,

Over a week ago, i suddenly lost all sound on channels 10 (ITV3) and 31 (5USA). The picture is fine, just the loss of sound. All of my other channels are working perfectly just these 2 channels. I have never had a problem with this before. What could be the cause of this? My post code is BR2 7QG.

Audrey: You should try un-plugging your TV/box from the mains power supply, waiting about 15 seconds or so before plugging it back in again, check if any difference.

If not, you should then try giving your TV / box a re-scan, preferably completely by first of all removing your aerial and carrying out a scan without it, this obviously not receiving anything but blanking the programme list in the process, then once done couple up the aerial again and carry out a second scan, this loading all the channels back in again.

My reason for suggesting these procedures is that I suspect a glitch may have occurred in your TV / box, digital equipment having the tendency of being quite erratic at times.

I've got three Hummax pvr's that were all functioning fine until the last few weeks. I'm off the CP transmitter (living in Woking) and suffering from the same issues as others have mentioned, i.e., BBC channels are fine and QVC but all ITV, Channel 5 etc have degraded and break up all the time. I've done resets and manual retunes but same problem. I think it must be a problem with a transmitter but has anyone had feedback from them?

I live in Maidenhead and have lost ITV1, ITV2, C4 etc. The signal has been getting worse over the last 7-10 days and when I retuned last night I completely lost those channels!
