First two attmpts were unsuccessful and third attempt ended up on page 38. So here goes again:

I'm also in W3 and have the same problem as Michael O'Connor.

This is my first HD TV and I've only been 'experimenting' for the past two days so don't know if it's a new problem.

Rooftop aerial is checked regularly.

Thank you for clarifying that.

Is there any reason why W3 should be a bad area for HD?

Peter: Beardsley Way looks like blocks of flats on the Birds Eye view on Bing Maps, are you using a communal aerial system?

If you are, you may find that your building's owner has used a channelised system, which filters and distributes only the channels that Crystal Palace used before HD was added. It would need to be extended for HD, to include C31 as well as all the others. You may find that they're not willing to do this, given it's now less than a year before the whole thing will need to be reconfigured for switchover.

If you have your own aerial, I can't see what the problem would be, as this is a very strong signal area. See Single Frequency Interference for thoughts on what might be blocking this one frequency.

Thank you for the reply and for going to the trouble of looking me up on the map.

Yes, it's a block of flats with a communal aerial giving good reception on all the other channels (analogue and digital).

When I tried to do a manual retune last night it showed pretty much 100% signal strength on all channels except 31 (which showed 0%).

The aerial system receives regular maintenance, but as you say, I'm not sure if any necessary adjustments have been made for HD (although it has been available for some 2 yrs.).

Until some years ago I used to use an indoor aerial which gave great analogue reception despite being pointed at the wall. Would it be worth trying this option, or would it not be suitable for digital and HD?

It might work but try, if you can to get the best line of site that you can. There would be no harm in trying.

Kim: Digital UK's engineering works information is showing that works are planned at Crystal Palace this week, with occasional service interruptions. That said, I (in Caversham) am not having problems right now.

Check whether analogue is clear, or at least no more snowy than usual. If it is worse than normal, check that the aerial and cables are intact and that the cables are properly connected. If you're using a distribution amplifier, check whether the power supply is working.

I have lost all ITV channels and Channel 4 today. ITV and Channel 4 were very glitchy in the morning and so I did an auto-retune on my TV and now they have gone.

I hope this is due to Crystal Palace engineering works and not some broken aerial due to people doing very loud building work on my block!?
