Robert Lee: They are mostly 1440x1080, but sometimes the source material is lower resolution. The BBC have operated BBC HD at 1920x1080 for testing purposes. A comparison of TV, HDTV and computer monitors | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice for more.

Stockport

I live in Stockport and receive signal from WInter Hill. Reception has always been good. Late September on both TV 7 DVD recorder I started to get periodic bits of pixalation on the screen. Now I have lost Film4, ITV4 & Yesterday group completely. Aerial is a relatively new digital one, located on the roof. I have retuned but this hasnt made any difference. I have another TV on a standard aerial (located at the other end of the roof) which feeds through a digibox. This receives the channels no problem.
Any ideas ?

Hi brian is there any information on the clearance of channel 61 & 62 like when it may happen and what numbers they might go to. Could this be a good for business to start to get customers to change from old cd aerials to wideband now and not at the last moment all the best anthony c and a aerials ormskirk

Mazbar: Channel moves have to be negotiated with neighbouring countries, for the highest-output transmitters. The Geneva 2006 frequency plan for Europe, Africa and the Middle East shows an interaction with Ireland, for Winter Hill.

I'd guess that they will be moved to C49 and C50, on the basis that those channels have been cleared from the Sutton Coldfield and Emley Moor plans. These are still in Group C/D. If those aren't possible, I'm sure great efforts will be taken to keep in Group C/D if at all possible, as Winter Hill has the second-largest population coverage in the country, after Crystal Palace, and just beating Sutton Coldfield.

However, the plans for C31 to C37 are still not finalized; Arqiva have been asked to provide Reference Offers for Network Access for up to three new multiplexes in this space. A wideband aerial would be needed for best results on these frequencies. A Group E might be good enough down at C31, which I see is a possible allocation at Winter Hill. International clearance would also be required for these channels, though, so don't treat those as definite allocations.

Mike the main problem with moving a channel to 49 is that wales transmited on 49 as well so all the house's in the north west will need re tuning as well as all of north wales what might they do ?

I live in Whaley Bridge & can get all Freeview channels with a std Blake SR18 CD aerial. However, there is a 24dB variable gain masthead amp strapped to it. I get a reflected signal too as Black Hill is between my house & Winter Hill. My aerial points almost directly towards where Emley Moor is (can also receive Freeview from there but nowhere near as good quality due to wrong aerial group & big hills in the way). Film 4 etc has improved a lot since the power increase. The occasional picture break up I get I can live with - this seems to be mostly caused by traffic going past my house, no doubt adding further reflected signals to the one I'm already receiving.
