The symbol shows the location of the Limavady (Northern Ireland) transmitter which serves 45,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

I came back to this web page due to the absolutely crap reception experienced recently. I feel sopmewhat vindicated re my earlier rant in the spring about the deterioration in reception then which has worsened since. My comments then attracted some derisory comment from the experts and advice to me and all the other complainants to get our previously ok installations checked by more experts.
I note the statement -
Some channels on the Limavady transmitter have lower transmission power so you may receive only some of them.
I think that was what we were all saying back then - duh!
And the second part of the statement is a real ass-coverer -
Your cables, connectors and aerial may need upgrading to get all the Freeview channels.
Yeah, right! I would like somebody to reconcile thos two sentences for me.
Seems that we have a typical scenario whereby the central authority and the related interests prioritise and the regionals come last. If local society wants a different sequence then you have to make representations. Note Ofgem quote -
"In Northern Ireland, only three transmitters - Divis, Limavady and Brougher Mountains - broadcast the DTT signal, limiting its coverage and DTT take-up significantly."

Willie Donaghy: The number of transmitters and power levels for Freeview, before switchover, was necessarily limited to avoid interactions with the Republic. That's why take-up of digital in Northern Ireland has been relatively poor.
It means digital coverage from Limavady isn't anywhere near the analogue coverage area. Four of the digital multiplexes also clash with the Claudy relay. I'm not surprised that it's unreliable out where you are, although Digital UK's postcode checker isn't currently accepting your postcode so I can't see the actual prediction.
Aerials and cables do deteriorate over time with weather exposure, and if water gets into cables, it seriously degrades the cable's performance - and higher frequencies are affected worse than lower ones.
At switchover, the PSB digital transmissions should have parity with the current analogue transmissions, or slightly better. The commercial multiplexes will still only transmit from Divis, Limavady and Brougher Mountain and will be half the power - but that still means they should be nearly the same coverage as analogue, except for a few areas where channels clash with the PSB channels from a relay (Plumbridge and Castlederg).
It looks like switchover is about a year away, stage one on 10 October 2012 and stage two on 24 October. This is based on a leaflet that briefly appeared on Digital UK's website on Friday - my guess is that the announcement is supposed to be on Monday or Tuesday and someone pushed the leaflet out too early.

John - If it's the b/room and your not fussed about HD then an SD "Freesat" receiver at £29.00 from Argos or similar - HD if you want but a bit more in cost -. A Sat co-ax feed cable from the dish where the LNB at the end of the boom arm on the dish will have two spare ports, one of which you can connect to the receiver. Dependent on where your dish is located, you may need this done for you but shouldn' cost an arm and a leg to do..

Ballymena
I live in the Ballymena area and due to mountains I can only receive a signal from Limavady. Is RTE going to be available from Limavady at any stage in the future or are the four transmitters going to be the only RTE transmittion points for NI?

Dacr11: After switchover, you should be able to get the UK PSB multiplexes from Gortnageeragh relay. Digital UK also predict a good service from Divis.
The Saorview coverage checker indicates that Ballymena should get overspill coverage from Clermont Carn in the Republic, once the aerial restrictions are removed after 24 October. The NI mini-mux is only supposed to fill in places where the real Saorview transmitters can't reach, which is why it is only going to transmit from a few transmitters and at relatively low power.
The power levels are not directly comparable between the NIMM and the UK PSB or Saorview services, because the NIMM will use a much more robust mode.
You will also need a Freeview HD receiver to receive the NIMM service, as it will be broadcast using DVB-T2, not the older DVB-T.

Freeview reception from Limavady transmitter
My reception of all channels on DVB CH 57 (MUXB)? - (BBC4, BBC Parliament and many BBC radio channels)is very poor. Anyone else having problems?

Jim Cassidy: See the posting immediately above yours from "Transmitter engineering" which says that over the next week digital TV will be "liable to interruption". I expect that they are carrying out engineering work in preparation for switchover.
