floyd: I believe that the power of those muxes has now been increased.
Here in Doncaster I've just tried my set-top aerial on the first floor pointing in the direction of Belmont. All five SD muxes are giving good strengths.

hi, my c53 gives nearly maximum strengh and quality where as my c60 gives a very minimal amount, i have the cable that goes to the tv which gives enough reception for all the channels, the problem is this cable isn't long enough and it hangs through the middle of the room, i plug an extension cable in and it then looses just the c60 channels, do i need to buy/try a different extension cable?

HELP PLEASE - SOS!

I am totally confused and a bit hopeless about what to do. I have a LOGIK LCD TV - LCX27WN2. I am located in Thorne, South Yorks DN8 5ET and the pictures disappeared from all channels recently. I have only ever had the basic TV package, i.e. 5 channels. I have tried re-tuning my tv but the quality is not good. I am totally at a loss at what I should do to get my channels back I am in possession of an Akura AV900STB Digital Terrestrial TV Receiver which I was given last year but have never bothered to use and it also does not have a remote control! I am subscribed to talk talk phone and broadband only. HELP PLEASE what do I have to do?

Sue: Analogue TV (the old 5 channels) was switched off in Yorkshire during August and September. It was on the cards for a number of years!
The poor signals you are picking up are those of Tyne Tees which has yet to switch to digital television.
You will need a Freeview box to receive television, such as the Akura one you have. These things are always useless without the remote, so you will either have to pick up a remote (eg off eBay) or another box.

Have you had your Group A aerial replaced? If not it could be that you have a Group A aerial which is much less sensitive to the higher UHF channels.

Another experiment i carried out earlier today in relation to the elusive ArqA multiplex on frequency 53 from Belmont.Having to amplify my signals with my indoor antenna after temporarily deleting all my channels to carry out my experiment as such i managed to pick up the ArqA mux at Belmont (fr 53) but the hotspot for this signal is almost in the middle of my bedroom having to hold the small aerial in my hand and getting armache again in the process,soon as i repeated this with unamplified signals (antenna plugged back in set-top box) the received ArqA mux from Belmont kept breaking up,pixellating and disappearing into "No signal" mode.So the conclusion here is are the ArqA and ArqB mux's on the Belmont transmitter broadcasting on a different lower level (height,not signal strength) or at a different parameter than the BBCA,D3+4,BBCB (HD),SDN mux's which appear to be broadcast on the same level and at all directions on the mast itself.If i were to commit to Belmont fully (use Emley Moor in emergencies only,ie,inversion conditions) then for me i will have to consider whether to diplex two rooftop aerials a group A Yagi 18A for all but two mux's (excluding ArqA and ArqB) with a group C/D Yagi 18C/D or group E X-Beam XB16E for the ArqA and ArqB mux's higher up the frequency band.It is something for me to consider,however until Bilsdale switches over in September 2012 i have not made a final decision which transmitter i will fully commit to until that time arises (considering Winter Hill possibly?),but as Emley Moor is a nearby transmitter and a powerful one come to that,i use this mainly for emergencies with my current indoor set-top aerial.

In relation to my above text,carrying out the experiment on the elusive ArqA mux on fr 53 at Belmont earlier,with my indoor set-top aerial amplified on this occasion,i forgot to add that the signal quality peaked at 99% while the signal strength peaked at only 51%.

Mark Fletcher: The commercial multiplexes are on lower power than the PSBs.
SDN Ch30 50kW
ArqA Ch53 100kW
ArqB Ch60 100kW
The reason for this is probably because there are other transmitters that are co-channel.
Use the map to see transmitters that use the same channels:

Look at the channels used by the three PSBs and then compare Ch53 and Ch60. I don't quite understand the reason for the restriction on power on Ch30 as it is used very little in the UK.

I would guess that Ch30 is a lower power because of the lower risk of co-channel at the edge of the reception area.
It could easily be co-channel causing the reception difficulty on Ch53 in Halifax
