I live in Hedge End, Southampton and receive Freeview via the Hannington transmitter. Reception is OK most of the time but the last 2 or 3 days I have lost signal in the morning. Bad pixellation or complete loss on some channels, BBC and ITV for short periods. I am presuming it may be weather related but is there anything I can do about it.?

Steve Latham. If things are OK most of the time, your signal is probably on the edge & just using a 15 to 20dB signal preamp will probably make enough difference for a small price. Try Maplin etc. for preamp.

D Ferguson.
As Mark Fletcher suggests, the problem you are experiencing could be due atmospherics.
If so then:
A) You'd expect see some difference in quality between daytime and nighttime reception - not necessarily just on Channel 45 (BBCA) but also on adjacent channels (Channel 44 - ArqA - shows Dave, Sky News plus other things that I don't watch!)
B) Your neighbours (within a few hundred yards) will be experiencing similar problems. Try asking them?
C) There is nothing you do about it, except point a Group A aerial in the opposite direction (towards London, rather than towards the end of your Close) and receive from Crystal Palace instead. (Actually I'm surprised you're using Hannington rather Crystal Palace - superficially, at your location, the figures for the latter look better than those for the former.)
If it's not atmospherics, then its probably a TV tuning problem - anything with computer chip in it (such as digital TV) can throw random glitches (such as deleting channel information) for unexplainable reasons. (It's what keeps the IT industry going!) Similar problems can be caused by small children or elderly relatives with a remote control, so try its worth trying a re-tune.

C I am near the roundabout, I can see Hannington, I can't see Crystal Palace. Also I want South Today not London news
I'll try a retune, there aren't any children meddling with the remote! But it did affect both tv's suggesting something to do with the aerial or beyond

My reply above (4:17pm)was addressed to D Ferguson (24th July 08:50), not to you. In your case it's certainly NOT the TV. To have two TV sets fail in the same way at the same time is very, very improbable. Also, at your location, I wouldn't suggest any transmitter other than Hannington.
I thought from your second post (25th July 09:19)that the problem had resolved itself? Are you still losing reception on all channels?

aerial is on the roof, we have always received a good signal now we are receiving good sometimes average and sometimes not at all!
in view of our location should we perhaps think about I.O.W ?
or should I be still receiving good signals from basingstoke but you have problems?

Paul.Hythe,SO45 6JG.First of all is it the radio or TV signals that is causing you the difficulties as judging by your two previous comments both were posted on the Basingstoke DAB radio transmitter page and this one on Hannington main TV transmitter page.
If it is TV related is your aerial polarised horizontally facing Hannington,or polarised vertically facing Salisbury major relay.Also what is the colour tip or your aerial if you can identify this as such,as if you decide to realign the aerial to Rowridge you will need to either change your aerial as Rowridge main transmitter is an all group A mast (red tipped group A aerials preferably will need to be used here),or consider diplexing your aerial (using a second antenna) with your current one facing either Hannington or Salisbury with a second antenna pointing to Rowridge.

Any thoughts on having problems with just one multiplex (coms 6 ARQ b), all others come through perfectly.
We dont have a freeview hd box, but all other multiplexes come through perfectly without any problem.
Coms 6 is totally variable. Sometimes the signal comes through perfectly, sometimes you get no signal at all.
Has anyone got any thoughts about how 1 multiplex can be so variable without affecting any others (coms 5 is sent out at the same power, according to the information at the top of the page, could the relay be broadcasting this multiplex at less power than the others?).
I'm just trying to work out if this multiplex is bad for a reason or if it is a problem in my house. I havent been able to ask people around me as they all pay for their tv (it was only at switch over that you were able to get any freeview in our vicinity at all).
I just cant understand why all the other commercial multiplexes broadcasting at the same strength, come through perfectly but this one is most of the time unwatchable (though occasionally it is fine).

Tim.I would look up single frequency interference as a likely culprit for your ongoing problem with the ArqB multiplex from Hannington on frequency 47.
